is there anyone here that has actaully put s52 pistons in there motor or at least knows what all it nessary? boring of course and the compression seems like it may be a little to high? also what is required for it to fit on the con rods? and what headgasket should be used? maybe machining wont be nessary with a thicker one? tia

I will do a full writeup when we are finished, but here is how it looks for now.

The wrist pin sits .3mm higher which drops the piston in the bore the same amount. This isnt much, however the S52 piston dish is much bigger than the M42 so the compression would be way low. If you want to run boost, just get the block bored to 3.400" put the pistons in with stock rods and crank and have fun. Compression ratio would be ~8.9:1

What Dino and I are doing is using the M44 crank and machining the pistons for clearance. I'll be taking 2.5mm off the top of the piston and milling new valve reliefs.

The target is 10.5:1 with almost 2.0 of displacement.

I need to hurry and get these pistons done since I just put in my 2 weeks notice at work  it's going to suck not having access to cool tools, but I really have to go back to school

The small ends of the rods are exactly the same between S52 and M42.

well i was thinking of eventually installing a DASC, so there is no way i would want 8.9 compression for that. I dunno if i want to deal with a turbo it just seems like so much of a hassle.

maybe i will just do what you are doing, then if i want more power dasc? maybe i will send you some pistons plus a few bucks and the machining cost and you machinest could do mine since he would know what he was doing? also i saw you got a crank from bavarian auto recylcing, how much did it run you?

thanks

why not?

run 8.9 comp, and then safely run the dasc with an 11lb pulley? or greater.

Im going to try to get a guy that bought an m44 off ebay for $1 to sell me the crank because he doesnt need it. It has 163k. should i plan on haveing that machined?
