Thought sunroofs were standard on our models. Turns out I was mistaken.

I have no sunroof. I'm screwed if I ever end up needing a new headliner or a new upper dash peice.

why don't some of you like your sunroof's?? i was glad to have a sunroof, in the summer or whenever the whether permits, i love opening it up and sometimes looking up at night (hehe while the car is standing of course) or just opening the vent to get more air circulating..

Its not that I dont like'em, as a matter of fact, one of the reason I wanted a BMW is cuz I thought they all came with sunroof's. Apparently, I was wrong and got one that didnt.

I thought that most 318's had sunroofs!

I'm glad I have one as in the summer (the 2 days) it's nice. I actually have just about all the parts to do the manual to electric conversion.

I always have the roof open. (sometimes I close it for heavy rain). I think the sr cars are at least as stiff, or more so, than the non-sr cars. What does it weigh, maybe 20 lbs in extra hardware? If the heat is on it will compensate for an open roof. I plan to actually get the AC to work better (maybe convert to r-134) this summer, and so the top will prolly stay open then too.

Same exact thing happened to me. I'm 50/50 about sun roofs, never had a car in the family w/ a sunroof so it would be nice, but I wanna autox this one so don't want the weight. Ultimately I love my m42 and won't give it up anytime that I know of for a while in the future, so I don't mind no sunroof.

I've heard it's around 50 extra pounds when all is said and done, never seen it for myself but that's what I've heard.

i like sunroofs, and auto-xing can get pretty hot, and i missed having a sunroof in my wrx. plus it looks badass when you flip it up IMO...

i've heard differing opinions on sunroof deletes, some say you can only get a few pounds once you redo the headliner and have the sheet metal in place and others say you can still save 80-100lbs.. confused..

when are you going to adopt the rest of us...?

Sunroof here. I am all about light weight, but I guess the ergonomical and aesthetic benefits supercede the technical(regarding the sunroof).<---Never thought I would say this:o .

Manual crank sunroof like in our 318's is the best IMHO! Lightweight and reliable. And, yes, I LOVE my sunroof! It's open all the time, even in winter.

i gotta sunroof and i love it in the summer living on the beach. also, the car looks more intimidating w/ the vent up. As far as a sunroof delete goes, I have read more than a couple times that the sunroof removed can drop you 40lbs. and they sell carbon fiber panels to fill your new void in style and light weight.

Most 318IS had sunroofs.

I wanted without as I am kinda tall, I wanted the extra headroom and chassis stiffness.

i really doubt that a piece of metal that thin weighs in at 40lbs..the crank mechanism probably weighs close to nothing as well..

i don't know exactly. but i think the number came from all the parts added up, if you had an electric sunroof. motor, rook, sliders, hardware,...whatever else. But i don't really care b/c mine's staying

no sunroof here it would be nice to have since i live in Sunny San Diego...for the most part i hear having no sunroof is a good thing if u truely drive ur car...something about the sunroof flexing, i hear from the autoX peeps with sunroof complain about their roof warping...and ive seen some warped ones. Wat do u think about that?

Reliable until your crank handle snaps off line mine did! :S Moral of the story... only SOBER passengers get to operate the sunroof from now on.

I Love the Manual Crank, until you try and show off at how fast you can open it and your hand slips off and hit the passanger, its even more embarassing when that happens on a date...:o

None to be seen on mine. It's kind of a bummer - I didn't know most E30's had them until much after I bought the car. I enjoy having a sunroof but by no means does it bother me not having one. I just roll the windows down a smidge. :)

He was saying its vary rare no not have one. I like having no sun roof. its kinda different i guess and it looks cleaner.

I have a sunroof in both my iS' (both electric)

I'd like a sunroof in a road car, since it looks the nuts on tilt and it can be nice to have in the summer too.

For a track car though, I wish mine was a non-sunroof model.
I'm going to make it one though:cool:

Hey i just got my 91 m4s e30 318is and i'm having a sunroof issue. It came with a manual crank sunroof but its rusted and its stuck cracked open. I live in canada and winter is around the bend.

Now the seller gave me an extra sunroof but its power and its silver to match the hood. I have a few ideas for it but i need some opinions.

First things first i need it out. I have the tools but I'm not sure if its a good idea for me to do it myself. The question is can i bolt it up to the manual crank? Which one is better crank or power? Or should i just body fill it and forget about it?

I have a moonroof if that counts. Its not stock just some aftermarket roof, but I need a switch for it to work. http://www.m42club.com/forums/images/smilies/mad.gif http://www.m42club.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif
