Hi, i'm new to the forum. I recently bought a 94' 318is, how do i tell if its a m42 or an m44?

94 should have a m42. unless its had a engine swap.i bought a 91 the other day that has a damn m44 in it. so you never can tell

The intake manifolds look quite different. Like 3seriesnut said, you should have the M42 in the '94. The M44 appeared about 6 months into 1995.

The E36 M42 and the M44 use essentially the same manifold. That is the E30 M42 manifold.

pretty ez, just identify the maf, the thing that attached to the air filter housing/cai. :cool:

if it look like a box with the black squal on top like the pic below. It's an m42

If it looks like a black cylinder, on e36er 318. It's an m44.
