So far this year I have solved the warm start issue with my M42, changed the engine (360,000km before it ate the chain rollers) with a 140,000km engine, rebuilt the back brakes, replaced the fenders, changed the b pillars, installed side skirts and replaced the floors. Not necessarily in that order.

Last year I installed a newer steering rack, heavy duty bilstiens and replaced the front brakes including the calipers.

Out with the old....

Good work. What kind of side skirts did you install?

Fiberglass copies of the bmw originals. I have no idea what the part numbers are.

Heres's a link to the Warm Start Problem and what I did to solve it http://www.m42club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4688

The motor change came later as a result of the timing chain disintegrating.

Thanks for the response... mine (and others) actually starts ok, but runs lopey for the first minute. Sometimes it will stall if you mess with the throttle. Then you restart it and the car is fine after that. None of us can figure it out. Doesn't effect driveability... just an annoyance to have to wait for a minute or two before driving off for the engine to stable out. Does it much worse when warm though. Sometimes when cold it will actually start fairly normal and you can drive off immediately. Anyway our search for an answer continues...

Mine would start normally when cold but would take a long time to crank over before starting when hot but only if it sat for more than 10min when hot.
