fog light mod

I always wanted my fog lights to be on all the time when running but the only mod I saw was to have them on when the lows and highs were on . I wanted the fogs to act as running lights and be on as soon as the car was started .I know in Canada that's the way they came but for us in the USA it was not the case.
This how I did it .

Find the fog light relay in the amongst the fuses and remove it .

I found ignition power at empty fuse location #16 , "heated seats ",
which is not used in the 318is .

I made a jumper wire out of some wire and spade connectors.

I connected the wire from the two locations .

If you were worried about fusing this you could solder or connect a fusible link into the line .

Clever I suppose, but I don't get the fascination with running fog lights in anything but fog.

Do you also have it set up where you can run your high beams and low beams at the same time?
I read that in some states it is illegal to have more than 4 lights on at one time.
I don't know if that is true or not, just read it somewhere on the net.

Yes, with the high beams on all six lights will be lit.

Cool mod... I was wondering how to do this exact thing. Unlike the guy above, I do like driving with fogs on all the time as I like the visibility. Meaning I like ppl to see me... plus I do like the way a car looks running fogs even during day.

Here in massachusetts, if you have the fogs on when ther is no fog, the cops get a bit frustrated. Illegal no, dangerous for getting pulled over, yes.

That's weird... and to me doesn't really make sense. They act as daytime running lights if you drive with them on during the day? Not hurting anyone... only helping ppl to notice your vehicle. LOL I'd get pulled over constantly then, and would have to call a few supervisors in the process. Probably wouldn't go anywhere, but if the cop who pulled me over was going to waste my time, I'm going to waste his as well. Especially if they aren't actually illegal. LOL I better have been speeding. :D

That is true here in San Antonio, TX. But you have to seriously have your car riced out to get pulled over for it.

here in Jersey, if your car has fogs, they have to be wired so that they go out when the high beams are turned on. Some like it this way, some like it that way, and some, like me, got no dam fog light to worry about:D

I'm guessing that most all of the board members are located in the United States. I do know for a fact and first hand experience that in Switzerland, Germany, Austria and France, it is illegal to drive on the Autobahn without some kind of headlight or fog light on at all times. This is a good thing especially when driving in Switzerland...because the Swiss are horrible drivers and one must be seen when surrounded by Swiss drivers! :D

I like the idea of wiring the fog lights to come on and stay on for visibility/safety sake. Thank you OP for posting this thread...back in 2008!

I am pretty sure DOT law states that white lights are driving lights and yellow lights are fogs. Aren't the "fog" light actually white therefor making them driving lights? I think you can have driving lights and high-beams on at the same time per DOT laws.
