Not gonna happen. For one, the ecu in the e30 is much different than an e36 so therefore how could they have a chip that could deal with both? e30 ecu's have numerous things that are different, including the lack of knock sensors.

I may be mistaken but i thought that the early e36's were exactly the same

e36 has knock sensors..and oil pan is diff. plus a m42 wont fit in a m44 engine bay(<<might be backwards on that one)

The m44 and m42 are dimensionally identical, different intake manifold than the e30 variant, but I can't imagine the two not being interchangeable physically.
