im in the middle of building my m42. lets get to the point...

my goal is 300 - 350 RHWP.

what im getting
-CP forged pistons (9:1)oversized to 86mm(stock is 85mm) from vacmotorsports
-MLS headgasket (.060 - .080) depends on if and how much my head has to be milled down
-ARP headstuds
-performance / racecoated rod bearings
-machine shop work, already did my home work and got some prices, found a local shop that does awsome work, definetly got good references. boring my block to match the pistons(86mm = 2.0L?) balancing and polishing my crank, shotpeen my stock rods, mill my head(if needed) and 5 angle valve job ALL for $430
-Metric mechanic turbo cams/beehive springs/titanium keepers. ive already port/polished my head

im just doing the build first, getting the megasquirt straight and get it running good. hopefully will be boosted by fall. then we'll worry about the turbo/fueling/exhaust... And of course im doing all the other things like waterpump/Tchain/all other gaskets and seals/and sensors. and i have already purchased a COP kit from rob on here.

thoughts....? comments.....?

How much boost do you plan to run? Are you running the stock crank? Do you plan to up the rev limit?

awsome man! i also saw someone post an obx mani with dp they got from ebay claming that it was nice...but i just cant trust that.

and i plan on running the stock crank, and upping the limiter a bit, i figure the head can handle it. and we'll see about the boost, depending on what snail i plan on using.

you picked rods from here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/EAGLE-ESP-HBeam-Connecting-Rods-BMW-M40-M42-M44-motor_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33623QQihZ024QQit emZ370013040223QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V

if so they're shorter than stock... are 5.313" (135mm) lenght yours? Stock ones are 140mm.

ah great, I remember when he told me about them!
But they are 5.313" CRS5313B43D

hmmm your right, i looked it up myself as well, 140mm.....why would they make forged rods that are shorter? maybe assuming your going to deck the head? or use high comp pistions to compensate for the shorter rods?

because turbogoods sells some special pistons for those rods that have higher compression height, wich is good for turbo... so you'll end exactly with toyosupr setup (aka Alex Neumann) wich was making some serious power:D
search for it on bimmerforums, he has his thread!

well they emailed me back about the pistons, but im just wondering how much bigger they have to be to compensate for the shorter rods, and with a .060 MLS headgasket

i figured since today is my day off, and its so nice outside, that i would take some time to clean the engin bay, since it have the room with the motor out.

pulled out the condensor, AC lines, and whatever the AC collector or whatever it is on the passenger side along the fender. alot more room for a FMIC now :D

stereomotional, you have a PM, read it, it's important!;)

or if you want to try:
http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=903532
BUT DISCLAIMER: I don't want any responsability...I'm not a engineer, never tried 4g63t pistons on engine, only christmas holidays fantacalculations and they maybe wrong... but if it works it would sign a new era.

Custom pistons? I forget which one of the big-name piston companies did it, but I know a guy who had some very custom pistons made for a vintage GMC I6. Ran about $600 for the set.
