intank fuel pump FTL

So my new to me 318is likes to eat fuel pumps and i dont see my self spending the $300+ on a new one. Has anyone converted to a walbro 255? I know we have to pumps but the intank is the only one going out.

only semi retarded;) the 325is (m20) has two pumps, the 318is (m42) has one in tank pump.

I installed a Walbro 255 in my 325 chassis but it's currently driving an M42.

So how hard is it to convert from the factory style in tank 318 fuel pump to the Walbro 255? Does the Walbro fit in to the fuel pump "cage" or are there modifications that are needed to keep it in the "cage" and also, what about the Walbro wiring?

Any pics or more info?

I know the Walbros are easy to come by and the price is decent as well (I've purchased and used the Walbro 255's in and for prior Mustangs)...

i think it would perfectly fit into the tank... you can take the wiring of the existing pump.. the pump must only be smaller then the hole in the fuel tank.. and to fit it to the "cage" can not be as difficile.. its very simple built down there..

Thanks for the input. Was the wiring pretty straight forward as far as mating the Walbro up to the existing wiring that was there? Did you solder or use the BMW connectors?

Any other info is appreciated - it's nice to know that a Walbro can be used!

That being said, I think I would remember having taking some extra steps if I soldered it as I had just pulled it from the fuel tank?

Its nice to see all the replys, much better than bf.c. My walbro will be in mid next week and I'll tryin take a few pics and do alil write up while I'm replacing it. I just want this car to run, I'm hoping it wont be raining anytime soon as all I have is my harley to ride as of right now.

Just curious - has anyone used or considered using the TREPerformance 255lph fuel pumps? Their ads seem to be legit and they seem to sell alot of these pumps for BMW's too... Price is fair as well:

I know you can use a number of fuel pumps in an E30 by hooking them up with the rubber hose and connecting the wires. I've known of people using Escort, Mustang, and Taurus in tank pumps in any number of street and race cars. We used to just go out in the junk yard and get one. Hook it to the pipe with a piece of rubber hose and clamps and connect the wiring.
