Here's the deal...

We're entering our car in the Grassroots Motorsports Ultimate Track Car Challenge that will be held here on the West coast in June. It's a by invitation event and the candidates are being screened by their CarDomain.com pages.

For those of you with questions on our turbo M42 powered BMW Club Racer, this is where the most complete information exists.

Check out the page over at CarDomain.com and please help rate the car (with a good rating) to increase our chances of being invited.

The link can be found here http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2980038

Thanks for all the support. I wonder if some of our potential competitors are working against us... someone has been working to lower our rating so any help from the M42 crowd is really appreciated.

I've also updated the page and added detail pics of the engine bay, intercooler, oil cooler, fire system, custom wiring, and seat/harness.

A bit smaller than that. We're getting 280 ft-lbs of torque at 3500 RPM. :D

 A gearbox killer :) still using the 265? Hmm must be a 2871 or something then I guess but the compressor housing seems pretty big to me?

I must say I'm very impressed with the spool on that thing, I mean a GT30XX is a pretty large turbo :)
Can't wait til I get my car back from tuning by the end of the month :)

Keep the support coming! Oh, and you can help fund the new diff we need by purchasing a COP kit. Check the FS section!

Hi Rob
I will be building a turbo m42 in a street car over the next year or so. the goal is about 350-400hp.
What parts are you guys using in your m42? currently my parts list looks something like this
Block treated, re bored and re honed, acid cleaned etc etc
Argo rods (which are made locally in aus which is a bonus for me)
Custom pistons (thats a problem are there any off the shelf slugs available for these engines? im thinking about running maybe 15-17 psi and something fairly low comp would be best. 9.0:1?)
Balanced crank
Mostly standard but refreshed cylinder head with all new parts through out.
ARP Bolts used throughout
Custom grind turbo cams? are these needed? a close friend is a veteran engine builder and now a cam grinder im guessing he could sort this out but is it needed?
GT2871R on a custom manifold (right hand drive) and all the custom cooler and intake pipework to suit.
It already has a lightweight flywheel with e36 m3 240mm clutch

Other concerns are the gearbox and Diff. Can a built Getrag240 cope with that power and will the medium case 325i diff suffice?

What parts are you guys using and what power are you making at what boost pressure on your m42? Another local m42 turbo just ran a 12.5 at the drag strip on 14psi of boost but im not sure which parts he is using

JE makes pistons for the m42.

If you're talking about power at the flywheel, you're going to need about 20psi to get there (depending of course on the dyno). We've not done the headwork yet so it's tough to say exactly what gains you would get. We're running a Getrag 260 but it's a bit of a funky match up as we had to rotate the tranny slightly. An E36 tranny would probably be a better choice. We have a low milage (less than 60K miles) E30 3.73LSD and it's shot. Testing it with a torque wrench and it slips at around 50 ft-lbs instead of the 65 that's called for. We're running about 13psi right now but about to tie it into the ECU for more flexibility.

have you looked at the obx diffs off ebay? any thoughts on them?

I'm not familiar with them. We're looking at a variable ramp, 3 clutch with polished gears from Diffs Online.
