Ok, i'd love to sell this thing to you, but I'd rather you got a good deal.
there is a brand spanking new one on ebay for 40$ plus shipping, and there is another one there used for $1 plus $20 shipping. both are better deals then I can offer.

Thanks for the advice. I wish there was a way to service the clutch. I hate to open the system to replace the compressor.
thanks

I'm sure an A/C certified shop can do the job...?

The locals just want to replace stuff, not fix it.
In the past on other cars I was able to replace the clutch when they got too noisy
thanks

If your compressor is a Denso 10PA17C, the clutch can be removed without disconnecting the compressor from the lines. The clutch has 3 main parts: The electronic magnet, the pulley (& bearing), and the clutch plate. If the bearing is bad, simply remove the pulley & clutch plate. If the bearing is bad, you can just replace the pulley. Before you take the belt off, remove the bolt that holds the clutch plate on. Remove the fan, shroud, and the a/c belt to get access. You'll need some circlip pliers to remove the pulley from the clutch. You can use a mirror and work from the top (PITA) or remove the splash pan and work from the bottom. Don't lose the shims after you remove the pulley. You can probably find an entire used compressor & clutch setup on eBay cheaper than you can purchase a new clutch alone. The compressor referred to in this thread doesn't appear to be the correct model (I have serviced three) for the E30 M42.
