is this pin tool really needed to remove the crank nut? ive been trying to hold the crank while removing it and nothing works. also btw...is it reverse threaded or regular?

There is a hole in the block and flywheel for locking the crankshaft. It's on the lower driver's side of the block. There is a special tool for it but you can use a long M8 bolt.

Look under your starter. You'll see a big hold or plug THEN look under that. You'll see a small hole. Thats the one you want.. Just FYI.

It's not really needed as there are other ways of holding the crank in place (ofc..) but it makes things SO much easier. Just remember to have the engine in TDC otherwise you'll have problems finding the hole in the flywheel ;)
The bolt has regular thread.

cool thanks. tried to wedge a block of wood in the crank last night and someone even held the motor and stand and it was still coming off the ground...with a 3 foot breaker bar lol.

get a bolt, or even try the wheel placement rod that is in the trunk toolbox. I used a straight drift punch, basically a metal rod and I got the bolt off easy with a 25" breaker bar.
