Hi guys, I've got a 93 318is Coupe M42
Just wondering after I replaced my timing chain, cam, crank and idler gears, all guides as well and tensioner, My engine seems to be making a whinning noise when you accelerate and decelerate using engine braking. It is most noticeable from 1500-3000 RPM and at about 20-40km/h. And mainly when the engine is warming up.
Could this noise be the fact the chain just needs to wear in with the components? I am also using Mobil 1 Fully Synthetic 5W30 oil. Next change I'm going back to 10W40 (ran better). Since chain replacement I've only done 1000km. I hardly drive the car only twice a week.
Oh, and also the noise is similar to a timing belt being tensioned slightly too tight. I had a mechanic tell me that the chain just needed wearing in.
Any advice would be great.
Thanks, Nick
