Hey Guys!!!
I just drove on the absolutely most AMAZING road inside the U.S.!
It was a long Mountain pass on Hwy 18 heading out to Big Bear Lake..its called Rim of the World I think. But anyways it wasn't busy at all and the roads were really smooth! I think I might make a video out there with my next e30!
Anyways heres me looking off the edge

How much is gas there per gallon in U.S. $????
Me and my friends were discussing this today and I was wondering.

hmm?? serious? we dont have money, we pay everything with chicken, potatoes, whatever...!!
we have the SWISS FRANC.. and not the euro, all countries around yes, but we not!!!
1liter 95octane fuel = 1.95 CHF ~ 2.-$ so, i think the gallon are 4liter? = 8.-$
nice, hmm??

Yea my friend said you guys still used the Swiss Franc when he was out there but I didnt know if you guys had converted.
But heck 8 bucks a gallon??? California isn't far from that. I've seen $5.09 for 87 octane in the desert...
Can I live with you if I come out there? I'll just buy a vintage vespa and get 100 miles per gallon:D

Hahah dude I was walking down Hollywood Blvd the other night with my friend when 3 GORGEOUS Irish girls from Dublin walked up and started talking to us:D We helped them find a night club while sharing small talk but man they were absolutely beautiful. Sadly their hotel didn't allow guests :( and we had already got a hotel outside of Hollywood. Anyways moral of the story is I want to go to Europe just for the girls hahahahah.
Dude honestly you have an R1???? thats my favorite bike...i hate you.

Let's see it! Are you still out in CA? As you mentioned earlier in this thread, it is definitely Bimmer heaven out there. I've spent quite a bit of time in CA several years ago, but it definitely made me sick to see the fine examples of older cars out there.
P.S. I was sick last night and read through this entire thread. Thanks for the entertainment. It's definitely interesting to see members from several different countries represented.. BTW, swiss, I've been to Europe but never Switzerland... : ) I don't envy your petrol prices, but I do envy the bimmer selections that are available to you. In the States, BMW USA still wants to maintain an image of a Luxury car. I'm hopeful that we'll see the 120d imported here in the future.

Yea I'm still out here in CA. I'm in Temecula right now. I fly home though July 2nd, and then fly to Chicago the 3rd, and then drive home the 3rd from Chicago (10 hours) in my new 318is :D!!! haha Then I fly back out to Cali July 9th where I'll be till late August most likely. Yea its ridiculous out here when it comes to modded bimmers. I mean I see e30's left and right, but back home I usually see a couple a month...maybe!
Glad to see this thread sucked another person in! I agree with what you said to Swiss! I'm going to live with him for awhile soon :D I don't think he knows this yet though hah.

Wow! She sure looks nice from the front! Looks like a sweet find! How many miles?
Instead of flying up and driving it home, have you thought about having a auto transport company move it? It may not cost as much as you think. I've used the folks at All America Auto Transport (www.aaat.com). They just coordinate through a bunch of different carriers.
Which ever way you go, good luck with it..
Hmm, swiss hasn't responded yet. He's afraid you're really coming to live with him...

Thanks man. Yea I'll post more pictures of it later. All the pictures I have are of it with style 10's but I'm picking it up with BBS RA's. But I'm completely stoked to pick it up on the 3rd. It has 175k miles on the chassis and 110k on the M42 that he swapped into it. He has pictures of the swap. Very clean!
But yea I priced out just about every option and the cheapest was flying up and driving home sadly. Its only going to cost a little under 280 with food, gas, plane ticket, etc. to get it home.
Do you want more pictures?
What do yuh think swiss?!

OK, I have to agree with swiss, I'm not a fan of the "eye brows", but if you like them, that's all that should matter!
You young guys and BMX. I'll be turning 40 in a couple of weeks... WOW! I've got pins in my neck (slipped disc during a transmission install) and I have a bad lumbar spine (surgery planned fall '08)
And, hmmm, I met two Swedish girls at a bar in Waterloo Belgium back in the late 90's. They were HOT and were very open about sex! So, Sheldon and swiss if you guys head to Sweden together, be sure to take a ton a pics and report back later...
BTW, I'm still waiting on some additional pics of your new 318iS. I purchased mine a few weeks ago, but it's sitting in the garage waiting for me to finish all of my projects on my 318iC (every bit of suspension and driveline is being replaced).

I'm down for girls that are open about sex!:D haha. Shoot knowing my luck I'll go there wish Swiss and come home a damn daddy with 3 baby mamas. HAHAH!

That's a nice lookin iS! Hopefully the prior owner has kept up with all of the maintenance and you won't need to do a whole lot of work on it. Are there any known issues that you know you'll have to do after you get it home? You say you're never home. When are you going to have time to appreciate your new car?
I'd certainly be willing to work on your car, but you're in Missouri and I'm in Maryland. There's a few miles between us. Unless, of course, you'd like to drive it out to my house and drop it off for a while... : ) I could make sure everything's in order and just e-mail a list of parts that you could buy and have shipped to me...
So, when are you going to Switzerland? Start saving your pennies... Everything's a whole lot more expensive in Europe than it is here. And, most Americans bitch and complain about what we pay for things over here. Most have no idea as they never have left our borders. If you haven't been to Europe, I'd definitely recommend it to anyone.

Sorry its taken a century to reply! But there are a few issues with the car. The diff is fairly noisy, which makes me wonder about the kinda care the car was given. Also the motor is a little rough sounding, a lot louder tick than most m42's i've heard. I checked the fluids and everything looked good. The PO even gave me a quart just in case for the trip home and I didn't ever use it....which is good. But it needs maintenance none the less. It's okay though as if I can't find the time I have friends that will help for a few beers :D
As for time to appreciate the car well...I don't have much. But come the end of the year when I'm done with traveling and on to college it will be greatly loved and driven every week, if not day. :)
And as for Switzerland...idk. I have to be real to myself and I know that it would end up costing me probably 7k to go out there for the amount of time I want to spend and enjoy myself. I just can't do that at this age with the job, and a car in need of attention sitting beside me....too selfish hah.
But my co-worker and best friend is pushing me more and more trying to convince me I need a get away from the U.S. and my stresses. If I went out there it would all be spur of the moment. I've never been one for planning trips as I feel it takes the joy out of things.
P.S. I just saw the new "Hancock" movie with a few friends and was VERY let down. They destroy a beautiful blue 2002 in the first quarter of the movie:( why can't producers just give such nice cars to a good home?!

Sheldon all of your pics have disappeared or expired... : ( You need to get that fixed as it's definitely a nice example to look at. Don't worry about all of the mechanicals, they can be repaired or replaced, but body work is never something I can personally deal with. Regarding the diff, I have one that I extracted out of a 318iS that I was going to redo, but the shell had way too much rust... so, I ripped out everything. The only thing that the diff is missing is the rear bushing, but another one can always be pressed in. To be honest, I'm not sure if this one made noise or not. Something to think about if you'd like to replace the one you've got now.
Now that you've seen how much it is to get to Switzerland, you should definitely plan a trip. If you time it right, I'm sure you'd be able to find some deals, especially during the slower seasons.
And, Alex is down in Australia with his GF... Sounds nice to me. Beats the heat and humidity here in Maryland! I've finished all of the work on my 318iC and now it's time to start on the 318iS! I can't wait to get this car on the road!! But, it's going to take some time.
Cheers!

Wait a minute... did you get rid of your 318iS? : ( That certainly looked like a really nice car. I've never driven an E21, but I've heard they don't handle as well as an e30. Whatever the case may be I certainly hope you enjoy it.

I haven't got rid of it yet, but I plan on trading it for this e21 come the 18th.
It is a nice car but I really want an older BMW for now. Anyways I'll still be part of this board because I may be swapping motors ;)
