I like to build them more than anything. I sold my full turbo setup to a member of the board which will for the most part fund building a garage and also fund my new project for my 2002.
Over the past two weeks I have been installing a m42 in my 2002.
I am using a e30 m42 with the e30 trans. I will run a electric speedo. But this trans can run a mechanical speedo if you swap the back section with a 240 from a e21.
I am waiting on a few things so I will be at a stand still for a couple weeks I think. But it should be running and driving by the end/middle of January. And then it will sit in storage until it gets warm out and I will finish some things.
Here are a few pictures...

you are my hero!
what are you using for steering? 02 box? steering rack conversion?

02 box, I had to bend the center track rod a little bit. I think in the future I will cut the track rod and weld another rod to it a little lower or something along those lines. But for now it should be fine. I am clearing the trans by about 1/4"

Here is a small update...
I have mostly been waiting on parts. Only waiting on a couple at the moment. Should be running soon...
Yesterday I got the COP setup done, got the afm mounted and cone filter installed, throttle cable setup made and connected, and ground wire between body and the engine(almost forgot this)
Things left to do.
Install exhaust manifold, connect manifold to the rest of the exhaust, install o2 sensor, install drive shaft, bleed the clutch, and start it. So not much more

Picked it up from the exhaust shop today and drove it to my storage unit where it will sit until it is warm... Exhaust sounds good...it is quiet a bit louder than my e30 m42. I am running 2.25" pipe through two magnaflow mufflers.
Also right now I have a large hole in the firewall that the motronic cable is going through so I am getting a lot of engine noise and wind. I stuffed a shirt in there and it helped a lot.
First reactions are I really like it. I didn't really have a chance to really get on it. As it was the first time driving it, it is 20 degrees outside and there is snow on the roads.
No smoke or odd sounds from the engine, has around 160k on it.
I cannot wait until it warms up and the roads get cleared off to really test it out.
It took a month from the time I started until I was running and driving.

how come you got a turbo header for it if its N/A? and where did you get it from?

Because there is very little room in the 2002 engine bay to fit the stock header. I got the manifold off ebay, it is for a m5x/s5x. I then cut two runners off and had a cap welded on.

Wait hold on a second, so we can use M5x/S5x turbo manifolds (theoretically) to fab our own M42 turbo manifolds?
