hi all

just wondering has anyone done the camshaft timing advance mod? As we all know the cam timing sprockets are adjustable on the m42; according to rev a 5 degrees advance on the inlet camshaft can improve high end torque and power?

No one over the pond here in the UK has done this, not that i no off anyway, so just wandering if any of you american boys have done the mod? is it easy?

thanks in advance for replies (if there is any!)

Regards, Dan

I'VE done it. very easy, but i just kinda estimated the degree. i just slightly advanced it from where it was (stock I guess). i guess it improved performance, but it's kinda hard to really judge by the seat of your pants dyno

LOL

was the gain mostly high in the rev range then?

how do you go about doing it; i read somewher eyou have to drain the coolant and remove the 'stat housing?

no, remove th valve cover and everything is accessible. it's easier to understand once your looking at the engine. i'm in a hurry right now, i'll explain later

Just pop the valve cover and go to town. You dont gain or loose any power, you just change the power band. I have tried it and gone back to the stock settings because it gave me a rough idle.

my idle stayed the same, but i have an AFPR and other mods that might have something to do with it, idk
