Hi, I recently replaced my timing chain tensioner with a new part from Pelican Parts correct for my VIN.

I own a 93 318is coupe. It had chain type rattling noise coming from the timing case when you opened up the throttle at about 2-4,000 RPM. You could here it really well from the cabin area. (Vehicle is RHD so it is much closer and louder on that side)
After doing some research I soon learned that the timing chain tensioner may be the culprit, however after replacing my chain tensioner (piston) the noise has failed to go away and has slightly become worse.

What could the problem be if it is not the tensioner causing the noise?

The car has done 200,000 km's or about 125,000 miles and never had any part on the timing chain area replaced until I replaced the tensioner.

Sounds like its time for a new chain, sprockets and rails.

Correct, when the tensioner does not help, you need to do it all.

I would HIGHLY recommend it sometime in the next 5000 miles or you may be replacing the timing chain housing, which trust me, is no fun and a at least twice as expensive.
