took my oil pan out tonight only to find that someone forgot to put back in the oil sump pick up.. had to order from dealer.. no parts cars around with an engine. I am getting it in on Tuesday! fun fun, how do you loose a oil sump pickup?!? I'm am confused, but now i have to check all the bearings and might replace the oil pump

Your oil light never came on?
Have you checked to see if the light even works?

Nope, the oil light would flash a little bit but only a couple times.. i noticed the noise when i was on a hill, top end was making a diesel noise, it was being starved of oil when the oil pan was tipped but i pulled the valve cover and the whole top end is completely clean and no damage done to the cams or bearings

did you take a bearing cap off? because you didn't take any pictures showing the bearings... if the car was run like that then i think your pretty lucky that you still have a motor left...

No kidding eh? ya i check all the bearings and no blueing. they look good as new. Ya well i just took pictures of the engine because i expected it to be all sorts of mangled

Aren't you supposed to use new cap screws & typically replace them, as well as the bearings, when you take them apart? Just asking (I don't know for sure).

the caps are in perfect condition and they just have nuts holding them down. i read somewhere that 14.7 ft lbs what the correct tightness but i think that was for an aftermarket cam

The diesel sound could have been the chain tensioner starving for oil since there is no bearing damage.

I figured out the dieseling was coming from me sitting on a hill the oil in the pan was settleing in the back and the engine was being starved of oil because of the oil pickup not sucking from the bottem of the oil pan but it was only getting oil off the top
