I noticed that my fuel pump is now making an noticeable noise when the car is idling and driving...I never noticed it before but now it has become somewhat apparent, like a low hum. Is it normal to hear this? I'm also wondering if I can attribute that to why my car must crank a lot of times before starting.

I have always heard (from shops all over NC) that they go out FAST. That being said mine went out slow, like over a few weeks. Mine didn't effect crank time though. Hope that helps a little.

My pump has buzzed for 4 years, only now do I get a different buz when I start the car but that goes away in 5 seconds. Be sure to keep up with your fuel filter changes and the pumps will last a long time (I have a buddy with almost 400k on a original pump) My mech says they are fine if the buzz is solid, if it varies, probably time for a new pump.

Mine just stopped on the way to work last week.
Running fine, stop at a stop light. Try to accelerate away, nada. Car just stopped running.
New fuel pump, and it runs well now. Except for the big ass dent in the front from the tow truck driver.
