I'm new to the whole M42 but have gotten hands dirty getting to know the car. I bought the car knowing that there was coolant in the oil thinking it was just a head gasket.

Well I've torn the engine apart and sure enough the headgasket was pretty much missing right above the water pump. It is such an easy engine to work on I loved every minute of it. To bad when I took everything apart the lower intake manifold had three of the four inlets coated in 1/4 inch of black dirt/oil/burnt mixture.

Anyways, looks like I have a completely torn apart M42 and looking for any suggestions on what to do since its taken apart. I already have plans to bring the block and head into a shop and have them look at it. I'll post pics next weekend when I drive back to where I'm storing it. I don't think it would have made the 300 mile drive from minneapolis to appleton. Do M42's have a problem with the headgasket?

Anyways here is the list of mods that came with the car:

15X7 k-1's
Upgraded rotors
SS brake lines
Eibach/ bilstein suspension
Upgraded sway bars
upgraded suspension mounts
upgraded exhaust (not sure if its the stock manifold but it looks new)
4.10 limited slip
tinted windows
4 point harness with light weight seats
stripped trunk and rear seat (Still have all the parts)
air intake with heat sheild
AC delete (still have all the parts)

The only thing I'm bummed about is the power steering pump is missing... Oh well can't complain to much.

Hopefully I'll get some pics up next weekend!

Sounds like you have a case of a profile gasket having gone bad. How many miles on the car? The heads warp easily on these cars so have it checked out (hopefully the owner didn't drive it with the issue too long) as you indicated and you should be good to go.

Welcome!
