View Full Version : Side skirt install question

I will be getting the IS side skirts from the paint shop this week. I don't want to drill the car to install them anymore than is an absolute must. I usually measure once and drill twice.
The question is:
Is there a 3M strip adhesive or a similar way to "glue" those skirts on? I prefer to keep them if I should sell one day. We get some pretty big rain storms down here so whatever method is used there will be some water concerns.

There is a 3M bodykit tape that is actually used by some OE manufacturers, and it works very well. It is a pain to remove, though. I will be using it once I manage to get my Taurus skirts painted ;)

Thanks. Do you know which one that is or where to get it?
Follow up edit:
3M has a "tape" that is VHB (very high bonding) that may work. Anyone have experience with this? the Item number is 6JT51

Here (http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/3MAutomotive/Aftermarket/Products/Product-Catalog/?PC_7_0_53BC_nid=GSLH9CJP5Qge) is the product page. Ebay (http://item.express.ebay.com/Vehicle-Parts-Accessories_Automotive-Tools__3m-auto-attachment-tape-body-paint-repair_W0QQitemZ4639775531QQihZ018QQddnZVehicleQ20 PartsQ20Q26Q20AccessoriesQQadnZAutomotiveQ20ToolsQ QptdiZ2871QQddiZ1168QQcmdZExpressItem) has some stuff in the express section (in the link). Otherwise, google "3m body tape" and you should be able to find some. Most of the body shops in Indiana have it in stock, so I would check around to avoid shipping.

Thanks for the links. I did do some research today and found some interesting agents. I want to be able to remove the skirts if need be. Some agents I found would permanetly bond an Abrams to an F-22.

not a bad idea i might just drill a hole in each end of mine when i put them on. and use a 3m or something like that on the rest of it because i don't want holes either.

You can buy the drilling templates from the dealer, they are cheap.
Else you can likely find some to borrow on R3V, several people have them.
