Hi guys,

It's been about a month since I've ventured here. Hope everyone is doing well today. In my first M42, I was blowing antenna fuses like crazy. I got my alternator tested, found out it was the internal voltage regulator. Replaced that, no more blown fuses. I wrecked that one and got another one. I took it to the mechanic to get my rear bearings done and when I went to pick it up, the car wouldn't start. I had noticed the day before that my antenna stopped going up when I put on the radio. First thought was the voltage regulator. I completely swapped my alternators (the other car, at least I think, had a brand new voltage regulator). Well, no fixee.

Has anyone else experienced this type of trip? If so, what was the cause, and the fix?

Much appreciation in advance.

So is this a different car altogether? If so, then it may be the antenna that's causing a draw on the battery.

My car had a draw. I traced it to the antenna. The antenna was frozen midway up, but when I started the car, I could hear the motor run. turns out the belt in the antenna had broken, so not sure if the motor ever stopped running or if the signal was still being sent. Well, I disconnected the antenna motor, and the battery stopped drawing down. Since then, I've replaced the antenna and no problems to date. I'd check that circuit.

Thanks,

I'll check it out when I get my car back tomorrow.

My antenna motor actually overheated and melted into a solid ball of metal. The car would still start, but it had a bunch of electrical problems. Take apart the antenna case and see waht it looks like.

So the antenna is where it may be? I should be getting my car back by Monday afternoon. Would the voltage regulator (replaced it on my old alternator less than 2k ago. Swapped the alternators and it is still doing it) have anything to do with it?
