Can anyone suggest a Hi-Temp engine paint that matchest the factory finnish of the engine cover and intake manifold pretty well?

All the one's I've found were very bright silver. I'd like to have one that's got a little more of the grey in it, but metallic. I'm thinking of painting at least the valve cover when I have it off.

I know the Wurths wheel paint is pretty darn close, but not sure how it would work in a "higher temp" application like the engine bay. Any ideas?
Would a wheel paint work? I've also thought of doing a wrinkle black finnish, like on the M3, but if I do that I'll wait. No $$ for non-performance oriented upgrades right now. I think the powder coater can do a wrinkle finnish.

you should be able to get a custom color made at parts store, and you can get it charged into a spraybomb can. why don't you just repaint the valve cover and intake anyways? it would look a lot better.. i recomend powerdcoating tho, or base clear; somthing that is pretty hard.

i used krylon "chrome" paint, it was silver and its not high temp. i used it on my manifold & valve cover. so far the heat has not affected it and its been on there for about 8 months now. as for matching the rest of the alum. parts........well it was'nt a "perfect" match but it looks way better now than it did.

:( it was when i still had bad taste:P you forgot the fact that i have a blue head as well... i did polish my VC tho... and i'm building a new engine otherwise i'd take the time to repaint it all, or get it all polished... one of the 2. every time i pop my hood i shudder...:( and its all my fault i have no one to blame but myself and i was hoping noone would call me one it, but i KNEW one of you scheming people would do that i just kNEW it, now im going to go cry myself to sleep:(

but really, never paint it blue, or chrome, or yellow... basicly only polished or black. maybe a few other colors...

edit: matching body color is also a nice way to go. I.E. DS paint scheeme, or whatever red your car is. "it really ties the room(engine bay) together." i'll probably be base clearing my engine DS and polishing some things.

That's not a bad idea. I may try that. They have a good zinc plating kit as well I was looking at. But, I know nothing about the quality of thier products although I know they are geared more towards the American iron.

I may also try the body shop supply custom mix idea as I'm going to already have them make me a few good small spray cans of Alpenwiess II. I plan to sand and hit a quick coat on a few areas in the engine bay while the motor is out. I'll at least check there first and see if they have any suggestions. I'd rather us a high-temp application paint on the VC and IM though.

I painted my AFM a few weeks ago with some high-temp silver. Looks much better than it did (the aluminum on mine looked awful and so I decided to sand it down, clean it and shoot it with paint). Looks like one chunk of solid aluminum now which is cool!!!

Once sanded and totally clean, you have to be sure it's taped up really well!!! Paint on the "hot wire" sensor would not be good for it! After that, I hit it with a self-etching primer.

Then after applying several thin coats of silver engine paint, it begins to look like this.

And, here it is installed. It's a little brighter than I'd like (which is why I want something a little less "silvery" for the VC and IM). But, overall, I think it came out pretty good. it actually stands out a lot in this pic because of the flash.

What do you guys think?? I know it's a totally useless mod, but I was bored and wanted to play around with painting some bits. :D
