Just did your standard oil change (drain, replace filter, fill). Now the check engine light is on and the car will not idle after passing 3k rpms.

She starts and idles fine at first. First time I drove it was a bit boggy then died once i came to a stop. I can start back up and drive through all gears and she goes as normal until I stop again and the car dies. The check engine light will turn off at 3k rpms and stay off til it dies - then comes back on when start again. Traced my steps -- No leaks, all seals in place and plenty of oil

Any ideas - im lost?? Thanks!!

One note: Car has 103k. Changed from 5w30 synthetic to 10w30 synthetic. Nothing else new. Also, my gas gauge has been going on and off recently. Before that it was my mpg gauge (which one day decided it wanted to start working again). Could this be an electrical issue? argh.

check that all of the intake related hoses are in the right place. My car was doing the exact same thing after I replaced the air filter. Turns out a hose had slipped off the bottom of one of the idle components.

Where in DC are you at? That is a very nice looking car, and I am pretty sure I haven't seen it around. Sure do see a lot of beater aluminum bumpered e30s around here though.

Yeah I'm up in NW DC near Bethesda. There are a few of us around. My car (also 103K) is out at ak96ss' house right now, waiting for me to rebuild it after my wreck. He has a superb white one. there's a guy up in kensington with a really nice black one, but I have not met him... Did you have to drive your car much while it was like that? I had to drive mine across town like that. It was really hard and aggravating. Glad my feet are big enough to be pushing on both the brake and the gas at the same time...

just a few test drives up and down the street. still frustrating as hell. i even checked the lines and hoses to the airbox before you said something and thought i had it covered - guess in my frustration I missed it. getting pissed never fixes problems...

glad to know there are others in the area. someday we should all get up and b.s. about our rides.
