1990 325i purchased @ 120k mi. Did the t.belt, water pump, clutch components and still in the process of refreshing some petty things. It was summoned to track duty when the m42 crapped out @ an HPDE. Gotta love "back up"

LOL, what makes this one a better daily than the others?

How's the M20 compare to the M42?

No car is really better than the other. I have owned an eta, super eta, worked out super eta with an "i" head, stock "i" and m42s. Each offers their own unique element. I liked them all. The obvious major difference is torque and a little chirp while hitting 3rd @ 5800rpm is fun

I've got a 325i for a DD. It just turned 244,000 the other day and still running well. It has an auto in it though and that just kills power.

As far as comparing the m20 and m42, the m42 is WAY more nimble and fun to drive than the m20. The m20 just feels like a heavy piece of iron is under the hood. I just drove my m42 the other day after the weather broke here and it was SO much fun. It just handles so much better and feels so light on its feet.

Anyhow back on topic, now I find myself wrenching on the m20 as much as the m42 but it sure is nice to have another e30 for a DD/backup.:D

Given equal mods the m20 is lethal.

Wrenching on an m20 vs m42 side-by-side, the m20 looks ANCIENT. The cooling system has too many hoses, the ignition system is tad finicky, the engine bay isn't as roomy making a lot areas harder to access. An oil change on an m42 is the best maintenance process.

Going to have to agree on the oil changing process...my I just love being able to do a change in 10min and walk away clean!
