Hi everyone!
I just thought I'd post a few shots of the new seats that I've recently added to my E30's interior. The search for some original E30 sport seats ended after two years of endless luck in finding some in the original grey chequored cloth pattern so I settled for some SAAS GT seats in the black and grey trim.
The ones I originally had in the car were great 'condition wise' but just didn't support me enough for my liking and so I went with an aftermarket alternative. I think they match with the rest of the interior quite well considering they're not BMW OEM and will last me in the current colour combination at least until I can retrim the interior in a shade of leather in a year or two.
Anyway here are some pics. Other interior additions over the past two years or so that I've owned the car that you may notice are the new M-tech II steering wheel, new leather gearknob, shift and handbrake boots, an unfortunate dash mat (until I either get a new dash or get the current one retrimmed to eliminate the cracks), and the Alpine head unit.

The seats are very nice and supportive but I've recently been on a few many hour long drives on the freeway and they have proven to be very nice when cruising along as well. I hope you like the finished product!
Cheers,
Pete

I like the dash mat. I had one on my old volvo 740 and it helped reduce the dash reflection on the winshield in the sun.

lookinf nice Pete. hey, are you in/near Castlemaine?

Tony, yeh I guess it helps for the glare too true but I just don't like to think about the cracks underneath. I like everything to be clean and in good nic and hate the fact that new dashes are so expensive otherwise I would have had one brand new by now. I will prob get a new one at the end of this yr... My list of 'mods to do' is getting shorter so it can't be far off! haha.
Hey Jake... Nah unfortunately I'm not near Castlemaine. I am in country Vic at home atm but as of this Sunday I am heading back to Melb CBD for the academic year. I should be going on as many cruises as possible in Melb so if you are ever down this way would be great to say hi if you could come along to some of the cruises!
Cheers, Pete

Too add, did you need a custom bracket or anything? Or was it just bolt in and go?

For both my 318is' I bought scond hand dashes that were crack free from wreckers in Melbourne for $250 each time. Took about a day to replace but well worth it. Getting the dash re-covered costs around $450 to do it properly but never looks quite the same as the original from my experience.

Those seats a pretty nice. Do you know if they are DOT or FIA approved? Are they expensive? Also, do you have a SSK? If so, which one is it?

The seats were installed with custom engineered brackets using 5mm think steel and bolted into the original E30 holes into the floor. Not sure if they are FIA approved but just for the street they are more than fine. I don't plan to do any racing events in the car at this stage.

Hey Jake... Nah unfortunately I'm not near Castlemaine.
Cool cool, I have a mate that Lives near Bendigo, said he spotted a clean lazur iS in Castlemaine. i thought it might have been you.
Guys, SAAS are an Aussie brand, so i dont like your chances of getting a hold of them easily/cheaply. Sorry to curb your enthusiam.

Jake, fair enough... nah wasn't me...
silverblades181, SSK is Z4 3.0i... can reccomend it 100% if you don't already rock an SSK... was firm for the first couple of wks and still is but it has softened up enough to make it very easy for DD yet still quite fun for spirited driving.

I don't know of any aftermarket reclining racing seats that are FIA approved. Most, if not all are only the fixed back variety for FIA certification.
Besides getting a dash, I think you need to get a new center console or install a cup holder again. I have the exact same holes in mine. I think there was a popular cup holder option for that car back then...

^ i'm pretty sure it was for a phone kit. 2 of my 89+ e30s have had the holes, and I have seen a pic of one with it still installed.

Yeh I think Jake is right for mine at least... it was definately a phone kit previously installed and removed by the original owner.

Ah, yes I forgot about those. I thought those only started with the E36 models. I guess I underestimated german engineering. :D

As for the dashboard, nah not at all... it was just a dark grey colour to begin with. Maybe that is BMW's description of a black E30 dashboard, I'm not really sure on that though. It is definately a grey looking colour rather than a faded black for example.
