I cant remember where i read this, and just looked for it again without luck..

If it's an Bilstein Upside down construction it's my understanding that it's recomended against adding oil to the strut housing, as the shock seals are contained inside the strut, and the oil could damage the rubber in those seals.

The upsidedown construction can be considered like an ordinary shock except that it's the bottom that sticks out , usually this is very thick to acomodate the valving. And the strut is sealed with a large screw with a rubberseal.

In other words, the piston is fixed inside the strut, and the cylinder is what moves in relation to the piston.

Where on a standard design its the other way around.

My struts were oil coated on the inside but I didn't add any oil. I did put anti-sieze on the collar nuts.

did you dump the old oil out of the strut housing ???

Yep. Just poured it out but left the insides coated.

i've read that three to four oz. are supposed to be added...i believe that it was in the benyley's

Unfortunately I can't get ahold of Bilstein ,at least I haven't found a way to contact them. I have emailed Turner Motor Sport and asked them since they are a distributer of Bilstein.It seemed like a easy question.:confused:

I had to go to yellow book .com to get a number for bilstein in california.
I spoke to the installation guru and he said no oil required for the touring struts.

He came up with the same answer on Bimmerforums: "I got ahold of Patrick at bav auto and he said No Oil Required with the touring struts. Thanks everyone"
