A woman driver almost wrecked me yesterday. Was halfway into my lane and then she looks over her shoulder.

You really cannot blame the first one... Some people do that for fun. Though she is a bit over-dressed for mudding. Not that I have never seen that happen before either.

So, how many women DO we have on here anyway? I guess any here either have a good sense of humour, or have not read this yet lol.

I need to keep a camera ready at all times.

This morning as I am trying to merge on to I-4 (which is a major PITA) this woman driver in an SUV was on the phone, putting on make-up and sitting waiting to merge on to the interstate. She was just going about her business and sitting there waiting for interstate traffic to stop for her. Guess I should have offered her a latte. Nevermind! She would not not been able to drink it because the phone was cradled between her ear and shoulder. That would explain why she couldn't merge, she couldn't see.

Put the phone and the make-up down and drive your school bus lady!

OK, time for prozac!:p

I have seen people doing makeup, reading the morning paper(!), reading maps, snorting coke off their arm (while on the phone mind you) and much more.

The sad part is, I have been all over much of this country, and those were in a part of a state I consider to be good drivers, Southern California. I often wonder if St. Louis people can walk and chew gum at he same time.

I was dropping my jaw, then you said you were in SoCal. Then it all made sense.

As for the pics, check your photobucket account. They probably exceeded their bandwidth limit or something.

Ha Ha

I am now convinced that St. Louis Drives cannot walk and chew gum at the same time. They certainly cannot drive and talk, especially on a cell phone.

And it has only gotten worse in the last few months.

I feel like I am taking my life into my own hands every time I head that direction. I have had more close calls in the last 6 months alone than I have in 14 years of driving in So. Cal.

If you are doing 80 on a highway, they pull out in front of you doing 10.
They force their way into places half the size of their vehicle, at 80.
If you hit your horn, they ignore it.
They cut of Semi's
Drive 60 in a 70, in the fast lane...
Turn left on a red arrow, then get pissed at you for nearly hitting them.
And you can forget 4 way stops. Seems they either go 3 at a time, or one.
"What is a rear-view mirror?"

That is only a very small sample. It is insanity, they act like they live in a small country town with a few hundred people.

I have thought about it, but I kinda like it here. I like the fact that a 30 mile drive takes 30 minutes. Not 3 hours.
The weather could be better, and the drivers could be A LOT better, but otherwise, I like it here. Cali is nice, don't get me wrong, but it has its problems.
I can make a living FAR, FAR easier here.

Plus, I have a very cushy business going.
If I went back, I would almost have to start over, and possibly {gasp!} get a "real" job.

.....in so-cal, 30min where i live gets you almost 60 miles :)(70 if you get on the freeway)......but you are right, california DOES have its problems, still considering moving to Colorado.....only problem is being a real estate agent pays more in Cali .

60 miles in 30 minutes?

I have done about that in New Mexico and Texas but never Cali.

Ha, I wondered, most places you cannot drive like that.

Where in Cali are you located, and your real estate job may not be so well paying here shortly.

near Lake Tahoe....norcal, real estate has not been paying at all latley, i had to resort to another job after going 2 months without a paycheck (commision only). it sucked, but it should be picking back up in the next year or so here.

Maybe, but I would not count on it.
I work with lots of mortgage companies, real estate agents, and such.

Tons of repos going on and that will take a while to clear up. Probably as long as it took to get here, 3-5 years.

repos are a good thing for me, im going to the auction in november....planning on buying 2 houses and if i screw up, i will walk away with 20K.....hopefully:). But seriously though, im not being optimistic or anything but in the next year (if you look at the stats.) the market will slowly climb out of the whole its in......the market does this about every 5-8 years or so. im just hoping that i own some more property the next time home prices double.

hows the market where you live?

I would not buy a house in Cali. Overinflated and many selling are leaving the state. Taking the money and running. Try getting a Uhaul out of So. Cal, then ask about going... Thousands of dollars difference last I heard. It was $1700 when I left, going either way, now I hear it can be as high as 8k leaving.

Where I am, has been slow steady growth for a very long time (Missouri). It has had a surge and is slowly coming down from that, but nothing serious. The people who know what they are doing are still doing well, those that got in due to the easy money have all bailed out though.

It effects me, but only some. I do computers, so I work on realtors, mortgage, appraisers, etc... As long as houses are doing anything, I have work. I see and hear all sides of it.

a few months ago, it was agents leaving at a fast rate, then the title companies, now it is the mortgage companies and banks. Mostly the ones writing funny loans.

Honestly, the easy money housing is in Detroit. $200k homes (a few years ago) are selling for under $20k at auction. Granted it may take 5 years for their market to recover, but when it does, you could make a killing.

damn.....cali sucks like that. its weird there could be 400k house (wich is cheap here) right next door to a 1.6K house, people here are VERY materialistic, its all about whos got the biggest house or car......just making inflation skyrocket here! 7 out of 10 real estate agents dropped out (had to find another job) in the past 10 months.

That is just another reason I left Cali.
The rat race/keeping up with the Jones's sucks.

Here you can do quiet well on $20k per year. You can afford to live on $10 per hour. Try doing that in Cali.

$200k gets you either a hell of a house, or a nice house and some land.
In St. Louis, in the ghetto you can get a house for $9k. Be sure to chase out the crack heads before entering though.

200k here can get you a crack house, heck i dont even think they are that cheap anymore.

Austin used to be that way. Then it became "Silcon Gulch" and a lot of CA folks moved here to work at Dell, IBM, etc.
There are a lot of beautiful cities and small towns where the cost of living is still low. Was just in Paducah, KY. Beautiful little town on the Ohio River. Old Victorian style houses with big verandas and river view for less than $75K. But there's still that thing about not being near a major metro area. How you gonna keep 'em down on the farm once they've seen......? All the small towns within 40 miles of Austin are now full of commuters and real estate prices for older houses have went crazy. God, I'm starting to sound like an old fart raving about how it ain't like it used to be!
Wait! Ain't this the woman driver thread?

The St. Louis area already had this surge, someone forgot to tell the home builders the boom was over though. Looking around you would think we had a housing shortage. No clue why they think it is going to continue like this.

Luckily this area is a bit buffered from huge spikes. Especially where I am.

Keep in mind I am about 60 miles from St. Louis and 60 miles from Columbia, basically right in the middle. Most jobs are no more than 20-30 miles from the house though, which means a 20-30 minute commute.

$220 here gets you...
3 acres
1800 sq. ft. house (3bdrm 2 bath) 2 car garage
detached 800 sq. foot garage (could hold 6 small cars if you tried)
I cannot see my neighbors, everyone around us has at least 3 acres.

Did I mention no smog laws? :)
I could drop a Hemi in my 318, it would probably poke out the bottom or tear the front end off, but I could do it legally.
