My first real post ;)

I just purchased a sexy 1991 318is. Shes so sexy that someone is bound to notice and want a piece of her for themselves. I am trying to research out what my best option is as far as a solid car alarm.

Ide like to keep it under or around 300 bucks, but Im open. What do you guys recommend?

First thought is bruno. Second thought, don't worry about it. Save the money for cool stuff!

I am in the same boat. Not that my car is "sexy" but I've got some $'s invested in the audio system and I want to protect it the best I can. I've been looking at the 2 way system that lets you know if someone is jacking around with your car. Does anyone here have one of these and what is your take on them?

1) No high dollar stereo, especially one worth more than the car.
2) Put a factory radio in the dash.
I know a guy that used to boost stereos. He would park a block away from the high school, a party, or hangout someplace and wait for the boom-boom. Then follow them..............

I've owned 3 different 2 way paging alarms and also have installed several for friends and relatives. For my daily beater 318is, I'm being cheap with a $60 Crimestopper remote start/alarm and it has been pretty decent so far.

My past 2-ways have been Alladin(one of the first ones on the market), Viper, Audiovox.

If you're looking to spend $300, I would highly suggest Viper or any one of it's sister companies of DEI. They all pretty much come off the same assembly line. UNGO is basically Viper in disguise at up to 50% off the cost of the Viper brand.

If you want the cool factor, you can get an AudioVox and get the Carlink Telematics Satellite Command option which lets you control the car from your cell phone.

DO NOT buy a no name Ebay brand as their QA is very bad and you have a good chance of getting a mediocre unit. Either that or the unit can break down over a period of a few months.

Out of all the units that I've tried/seen, the DEI units seem to have the best reception.

My $.02

The PO of my car installed a simple Avital car alarm in 1998 and its still working like a charm.

I've been looking for one too
what i have found
buy the unit from an online car stereo store, they will have it for cheap
and spend the money on the instal
lots of places will offer you a 2 way system installed for that kind of money BUT they wont hook everything up the more they connect the more time and money it will cost, Me and a few buddies bought a clifford system online, MSRP 600 got it for 200 turns out its like top top top of the line who knew? and we took it down to a local electronics store (A&B sound) they do car audio stuff along with anythign that has wires
we payed 150 for an install and asked if that was everything, the guy said yup thats all, so we get the car back the next day, and unlike most people we go straight to a local Car audio visual shop (performance audio) and have them check it out, turns out half the stuff wasnt even touched
things that i said i wanted weren't done etc (level control, remote shut off, valet mode, and a few other small lil things) we had performance do the rest of the install, since we know them they did it for free
moral of the stupidly long story
Pay money for the instal not the unit
