So I wil be looking into a pair of climbing shoes in January. I am a big n00b to outdoors climbing, and what I have done has been bare-footed. While it was actually kinda fun, some shoes would improve my performance.

So, what I want in shoes:
- DURABILITY!
- Decent grip. Most shoes seem better than bare calloused skin.
- Reasonable price, like under $100.

So yeah, that is about it. I scored an Alpine Bod harness, biners and ATC from Craigslist; all were an unused gift someone did not want. Anyone in the Bay Area know of good spots to climb? I have messed around on Amazing Face at Mt. Diablo and will definitely go back for some top-roping. If only I lived in SoCal...the stuff I did in Santa Barbara one weekend was amazing!

used to be really into it when i had the time! Went up to Mt Arapiles a couple of times (australian climbing mecca) with a few mates, then just ran out of time to do it - its a 5~6 hour drive, not good for jsut a weekend!

Havnt been up to scratch on climbing gear in a while, but if you flick through catalogs you'll find the shoe your after. They come in different styles for different types of climbing - indoors, sports, trad, etc.

oh and ANY climbing shoe will be better than bare foot!

whn I started climbing years ago money wasnt a concept in my life and I got really used to barefoot climbing. Using my toes like fingers I feel that I and a better chance on the rock. needless to say, my feet were pretty bloody after a good run. now that im older and money is there time isnt, but damnits a fun hobby. theres lots of lightweight beginner shoes out there.
browse around here and if you have a local gym ask the guys around there.
