so i went out and bought 2 loops of 2.5 inch tubing, a flowmaster 40 series muffer and a bunch of butt joint connectors for easy install... i started the project at a buddies shop today... we pulled out the rear section and then realized i had an appointment.... all we had done was chopped the straight section after the resonator... so we threw that back on just for good measure and i bolted... i had heard a buddies acura with the same deal on his, the muffler out but still a cat and res in, and it sounded like the biggest rice bucket ever... So i was expecting to drive around and get a bunch of guys looking at me like a fgt calling me a ricer... well we started it up and it just sounded a little louder than stock... More boomy... so i took it out and man... it sounded sweet... sound like a god damn race car :D... set of at least 10 car alarms... not just chirped them... fully set off, so i will be looking forward slightly silencing it with the flowmaster, but all in all, the car sounds super nice with a free flow exhaust

if your car doesn't set off car alarms then its not loud enough. the glasspack sets em off in almost every parking lot...

haha, im so happy now that i know im not theonly one with glass packs. i run 2 though to keep it as quiet as possible. still sets off alarms though.

I found a glasspack on the street out by my house, it now sits in my garage, I guess I shoulda put that on instead of my DynoMax.

when my muffler broke where exhaust goes into it, it sounded really nice till about 2000rpm where it got about 10x louder

How's the drone with a glasspack? I'm going to need a new exhaust next year, as it seems the factory exhaust is only good for a few years before it starts rusting out.

here are 2 clips (*.3gp) just a few hours after I installed a new exhaust. it sounded very metal, but now after a month of driving, the sound became much much deeper and not honda_like :)
will post when I take time to record it.

Glasspacks are not much of a muffler, they do little to muffle sound. They tend to accentuate the bass and drop the highs, not quiet the car. I have seen several that were put on in place of a regular muffler and the car significantly increased in sound. Sound also increases as they age.

what kind of exhaust is that? yall tempting me with that glasspack. i want my e30 to have a nice deep BMW tone to it.. its a little ricey with this dynomax for me, maybe i need a new cat?

sha1234, hows that flowmaster sounding?

anyone ever tried DNA mufflers? theyre supposed to be flow-through type but they have a swirl through them like DNA strands.

glasspacks are CHEAP! only about $20.. i might have to get me two of those...

my little update on the Flowmaster
due to LOTS of power outages... the car has been stranded with no rear section
but fuck it ive been driving round with out it... making LOTS of heads turn
and its made me want to do one thing...

TURBO... i want the cars performance to match the sound...
it sounds fast.... but its only quick
so i will be starting the epic saving process soon
prob go for 666 exhaust and intake mani's
and run 8 psi for a while

your suspension system looks pretty well built.. bilstein sports, h&r race springs, adjustable sway bar end links, and ST sway bars? if they are, they must be the old ones as theirs aint green no more... get that flowmaster mounted already!! i wanna hear how she growls...

IS DONE!!!!
dont have ne pics yet, or any sound clips ill try to see what i can do
but DAMN!!!!
its a FAIR bit quieter... but sounds DAMN GOOD... like oh shit good
I`ll see what i can do about sound clips and pics
overal... VERY worth the 150 i payed for everything... 1 2.5 inch U of tubing, muffler, and clamp from pipe to muffler

oh and yeah i got the suspension package... a year or so ago... from turner motorsport, ST sway bars HR springs and bilstein dampers... but now i need rear sway bar re enforcements

are your trailing arms bending?

are your trailing arms bending?

i dont think the trailing arms bend much. i think the sway bar end link mounts just rip off. those things are pretty flimsy. welded reinforcements are always required with fat bars..

are you usin the stock cat? damn ive been wantin a flow on my car, but never knew if it sounded good. howd you connect/extend the exhaust? do you got a tip on it? any more pics?

do you got any city streets around where you live? ie, lots of pot holes, speed bumps, and steep sidewalks.. you have a similar suspension setup to what i want. hows it feel on normal freeways and in the rain?

sha1234
12-19-2006, 10:51 PM
well the rain has prevented me from really get pics or videos... cause i dont want to get shit yet...
but the way i ran the pipe was i bought the U of pipe... and went from the resonator back... chopping and welding the peices back together, worked out prety well, but at the moment its dropping down a bit... so imma have to work on the hanging system, yes im using the stock cat, but soon enough i will be building from the manifold back in all 2.5 inch piping, and i connected the pipe to the muffler with one of those butt joint connectors... for easy muffler removal, no tip yet but im looking for like a 3 inch oval tip i think that would look sweet
as for the trailing arms, they sent some plates with the kit... you can sorta see it that shiney peice... it just increases the area that is under preasure, it worked out great ive been driving it lots and it hasnt bent in the least.
and yeah i Live in vancouver BC... lots of roads in horrible condition... and its a good feel... firm but nothing rediculous... Ive been in a e30 M3 with a suspension kit and it was like a rock... wasnt nice
along highways its super nice to not have any body roll or anything like that so it gives you alot of confidence... and in the rain since i have shitty tires they slip... but it still grips to the road like a beast...
overall for the 1.4 grand i spent on the kit I`d give it a 10 outa 10 for value and performance
the kit just screams at you to haul ass around everything and anything

nice, does the muffler rattle at all against the car, or do you have enough clearance.

nice vid. your car is really nice. you should do a video of your entire car ;) that glaspack really makes the car sound like a beast, but it might be too loud for my taste.. especially in the city with all the police. nice tho..

thanks, it is louder than I thought it would be but its not too bad. The cops around here are pretty crazy and I haven't had any trouble w/ them. I plan on making a longer vid after the turbo is on ;) I have the manifold and I am trying to pick up a holset since I sold the t3. I figured I would want bigger soon so why not start w/ it lol. The glasspack sounds about as loud as most performance exhausts when you aren't a WOT. WHen you step on it though it get pretty loud and mean as heck lol. It also idles pretty nice imho.

sha1234
12-27-2006, 03:42 PM
yeah that thing is damn loud...
i dont know if i could stand it really... i like to be able to hear my music over the exhaust note
my exhaust is loud... but a fair bit quieter than that
as for the welding its funny... every so often i throw on a face sheild and do a few welds for buddies
and its so true that the more you do it the better you get at it... if i had really tried i could have cleaned up alot of those welds
but i was in a serious rush so near the end i got sloppy...
I have seen alot of guys at muffler shops do their welds, and they are the biggest bunch of hack jobs i have seen, cranking up the voltage and spool rate so they can do it faster, but in the process melting and thinning the metal around the weld, just turn down the voltage and spool rate a bit i find that works well and still gets plenty of penetration and go slowish to make sure your welds dont thin out
im sure jon volk would cringe at the site of me welding let along a hack job muffler shop, jon your welds deserve and award
