From a thread about my new M42 manifolds came up the topic of skidplates for the M42. I test fit the usual M20 piece to the 318is I have in the shop and it will require a different plate to be made. It will be of the same type of contruction as the current plates except the bends will be in slightly different locations to allow for the deeper sump and such of the M42. These will of course have a properly locate drain hole for oil changes without removing the plate.
Pricing will be the same as the M20 plates at $185 shipped. We're currently quite busy at the shop and need at least 4 pre-paid orders to commit the time to mock up a new plate and produce them. It seems like theres enough interest in them. We can definately get them shipped off to you in time for Christmas as well.
Orders must be placed by Wed. Dec. 13 and will be produced on Friday of that week. We have a few projects that need to get done this month so this is the only opportunity we'll have for a few weeks.
Orders can be placed through here. http://www.666fab.com/misce30.html

Personally, I want one but have to wait until after the Christmas spending is done and paid for.

I would be very interested, but as nick asked, I would need to know how much they weigh?

Without having a super accurate scale around 3-4lbs is a pretty safe estimate. Definately not any sort of noticable weight addition.

awesome - thanks!
My concern was shipping to PR (same USPS rates as the mainland)
Thanks again

Gotta do it now because I actually have a 318is in the shop. Need a few pre-orders in order to cover r&d time. Theyll be available for order down the road for those lacking funding at the moment.

I'm with everybody else on this one. I would definitely order one down the road, but now is a bad time.

So am I the only one? I could pay for three more, then resell them at a considerable markup.... :)

don't you think aluminum is too soft for a skid plate, and will fatigue fairly quickly?

for offroud I think is too soft, but for daily use is good, and composite will be fine too. :)

i'v smacked mine around pretty good for the 2 years i'v had one, good enough that an aluminum would be pooched by now. but there is a couple shitty roads around here, and the odd rock on the road that you can't avoid once its too late...

Aluminum does just fine for a daily driver or road race type car. I would not recomend it for rally racing though. Its primarily to prevent oil pan failure for things like unseen speed bumps and such. Its 1/4" thick at the bend/lowest point of impact and the reversed ramp shape will cause the car to "slide" over the obstruction rather then the point of impact being a vertical wall that is your oil pan. Coming off a dirt jump and landing on small boulder is not this skidplates purpose. :D

fair enough, but from what has managed to smack my skid plate in these past 2 years would have eat'n through an aluminum one by now is all that i'm saying. for those in the city who see the odd rock it bet it will be great, but there is a lot of construction around here right now...

skidplate will not help you if you hit big stone. Better try google and will see how WRC skidplate looks like. In my country rally teams use 4-7mm skid plates (sometimes with subframe).

guess I should visit more often.
I think I'd like one of these items. There are more and more tank traps er, I mean speed humps growing in my area. seems like a good plan B, esp when I put those race springs on....

I am pretty sure they do not make the skid plate anymore, however, you may be able to find one through the grapevine from another enthusiast.
