Hello guys! It's nice to see all this m42's in one place. :)
I've found out for it on bimmer.info and registered immediately.

I am from Croatia, and I have '90. 318is in a pretty good condition.
Before this one, I had e36 318is.

Here are some pics of my ex E36 and current E30.
The pictures are not very recent (6 months ago) and some things have changed since than (exhaust, intake, rear lights, ICE, etc.), but I will take some new pics and post them if you would like.

Hope to help with my knowledge.

here are some pics taken today. my brother has just bough a 320i for himself. now we can make a little bmw meeting in our yard :D

also, I've bought 16'' borbet rims for summer tyres. will mount them in march probably. can't wait!

btw, what is "15 inch euro weaves?" do you mean 15 inch rims or what? and why euro? sorry, i'm not familiar with the US models

here you can see pics the day when I bought my iS.

also, you can see the wooden steering wheel there. it's just a bad knock-off of a nardi, i gave it to a frend of mine. Currently I have a MTech2 Wheel

Nice. How come your battery is at the front? Ever think about moving it to the back for better weight distribution?

What are the specs on the Borbets? I'm asking because it doesn't seem like it has a deep lip. But of course, not everyone wants the "eurostretch".:)

all rims are 7.5Jx16 H2, 16''
front ones have smaller lip, and rear ones have bigger.
i don't know the ET.

Yeah I was talking about your 15 inch rims. I said Euro because we only got them in 14 inch. My first E30 was a 320i imported from Germany. It was a fun car but I prefer my M42s :D

Is it installed back on US models? Only 325I has rear mounted battery in Euro models

Wow, that is a clean car. What are the four red things mounted near the intake manifold?

BTW euroweaves FTW :)

biljak
08-02-2007, 10:55 AM
four red things are actually 4 injectors for LPG, liquefied petroleum gas. it is a replacement fuel a car runs on. the switch in the cockpit lets me choose whether i want to drive on gasoline or LPG.
you can read more about this on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquified_petroleum_gas

i installed it because price of 1 litre of gasoline in croatia is around 1.5$ (5,7$ per gallon) and 1 litre of LPG is 0,6$. and it is also environmentally very friendly since the exhaust gases are very clean. (

ose30
08-02-2007, 04:02 PM
1 litre of gasoline in croatia is around 1.5$

That almost free, here in Finland it's 1.38€ ($1.87) / liter ($7.06 / gallon)

What kind of containers do you have for LPG? How about engine performance, is it much lower than "normal" fuel?

SheldonJace
08-02-2007, 05:20 PM
WOW! And I thought I was getting jipped for paying $3.40 for a gallon of 93 octane.

Oh and I want your interior Biljak....and I wont take no for an answer!:D
car looks great!

I have LPG injection too. It's simple gas tank. Low end torque is litle bit better, but mid anf high end is litle bit worse. It depends how good ECU is tuned. My engine have compresion ratio 11 and it is much better for LPG.

ose30
08-03-2007, 03:59 AM
how big gas tanks are you using? how long does they last?
Are those gas injection kits readily available or is it made by your self?
Lots of questions.... But this subject becomes more interesting. Have you pictures available of your installation?

Most EU countries have price between 1.30€ -1.40€. Ony newly joined EU countries (old eastern block) where people's income is not yet so high have much slower prices. We are expecting to have at least 10% rise for fuel prices at the end of this year.

The only country in the world which have low fuel prices is the USA. Unfortunately that can also seen in US made cars, because fuel consumption is not so big issue like it is in Europe. Also environmental issues seems to be less important in the USA, because USA is the only industrial country which has not signed so called Kioto agreement which aims to cut pollution dramatically. Mr Bush says it will affect negative way to US industry and traffic. I wonder how all western European countries could afford to join this agreement....

gearheadE30
08-03-2007, 11:01 AM
Well, a lot of people in america don't exactly follow Bush's logic either...

LPG would be great, but the US simply doesn't have the infrastructure and we're too lazy to do anything about it :(

Tank is about 50 liters. LPG consumption is about 10ltr/100km. It is not kit, it is just standalone ECU, MAP sensor, teperature sensor and injectors. rpm signal LPG ECU takes from Motronic ecu tach. output.

Pictures please ! I am getting more and more interesting of LPG.

biljak
08-30-2007, 07:25 PM
first of all, you should make sure that there is a LPG station near you where you can buy fuel.
what are you interested in? installation, performance, consumption, lpg kit?

ose30
08-31-2007, 03:33 AM
installation pictures please. Also tell how you operate it.

biljak
08-31-2007, 09:31 PM
i will take some pictures in a few days, i'm kinda busy right now.
How do i operate it? Well, it's all automatic.
The car normally starts on petrol (gasoline). when a water temperature reaches 40 °C (don't know how much F is that), LPG ECU cuts of the fuel injectors and opens the valve to let lpg gas go onto lpg injectors. it reads from car ECU when and for how long each lpg injector has to be open.
If i want to, i have a button in cockpit where i can select on what fuel i want to drive. one simple touch of a button and car runs on gasoline. again, one touch and it runs on lpg. All happens within a second.
I have a lpg reservoir instead of a spare tire, so it doesn't take up space in the trunk.
pics in a few days of everything.

So your lpg tank is rather small. What kind of mileage you got with gas or the european way how many kg/liter it does take per 100km.

biljak
09-04-2007, 12:20 PM
tank iz 55 L.
my avg. cons. is around 12L/100km. usually, i make 300 km and then go for a refuel. just in case ;)
but since there is a lot of lpg stations in zagreb(city) and croatia, i don't have problems with low mileage. and there is always gasoline for backup :)

Tim! -> I have the same romano kit on the shelf... I was thinking about installing it, but it seems, that I will build up LPi installation based on VEMS and some injectors... First I need a pump that will give me 5 bars of constant pressure /required for the LPG to stay liquid/...

Here in Poland we have 1ltr of LPG for about 0.55 euro... But the gasoline is about 1,1 euro.

About tanks: I know a guy who transports friends who buys cars in Germany. He has 318is combined with 3 tanks... He has two 80 liters tanks in the trunk and one 60ltr tank in the wheelspace. And of corse stock gasoline tank.

When he transports 4 other person, he is running on special springs at rear suspension...

But he can do 1500 km on the LPG till it ends... With the average of 140km/h speed :-)

ose30
09-04-2007, 04:11 PM
Is LPG the same gas which is used for example in gas grills?

Tim,
i can see from the pics you sent, you also have a MAF conversion. Can you tell more about it?

All this talk of LPG has me intrigued, especially after paying just on $1.80/L (AUD) this morning.....i'd be interested to know what sort of losses you guys are seeing in power. Obviously peak power isnt a big deal, but lower to mid range is what im interested in. Anyone have some back to back dyno graphs?

I might have to look into these kits further....And tim_s where did you get the space saver spare?

WOW that is high speed. I like your 318is, it is the same color as mine but I have a tan leather interior. Thats cool that you have the LPG conversion. The first time I saw anything like that was back in 1987 in Calgary, Alberta. In Canada. Who makes your Intake?
