Trying to fit an Mtech 1 steering wheel on..!

as you all know the m42 has a standard airbag steering wheel..

i just purchased an mtech 1 wheel (the one that is found on some 325 models, the one with the motorsport stripe on the bottom not the M badge)

i bought a new slip ring for it, i keep tightening it down and its both: snagging something, most likely the blinker release for a keep getting a snapping sound..and the whole wheel wobbles..i cant seem to get it to firm..its almost like im missing a bushing to keep it from moving around the column..i have the metal bushing that goes down the column threads..i tried taking it out, putting it in after the wheel is installed, before..nothing..

im at a loss..please help cuz guys!

As I understand it, the airbag wheel is thicker, replacing it with a non-airbag wheel you will tighten down the nut but run out of threads before the wheel gets tight. You need a spacer to take up the extra space. Altho I have personally not done this swap, I hear the spacing between the lever controls and the wheel is different too, but I am not sure if the spacer will take care of that for you or you will need the non airbag controls too.
dont throw away the airbag wheel just yet..:rolleyes:

This man speaks the truth, I had a momo on my 91 cabrio and it had a spacer ring that was approx. 5mm thick.

Yep, I used two spacers on mine. One under the wheel, then the other, then the nut to button it up.

I'm getting ready to buy a Momo Prototipo for my e30 318is.

I have a Momo wheel on my 1989 325i but that was a non-airbag car, so I'm confused about the hub adapter for my '91.

Do I want the e30 non-airbag hub adapter, or should I get the e36-style adapter?

I guess it boils down to the splines, etc. on the steering column.

At any rate, what does M42club in its collective wisdom recommend?

on my MT2 wheel i did steering wheel > spacer > nut. On mine i just snagged the spacer from another non-airbag car, it looks to be about 10-15mm thick.
