For those that have added a turbo after the fact, what did you do about fuel and the ecu? Chip?

From what I have seen and read, up to about 6 pounds of boost or so you should be ok.
Any more and you will need something more. Megasquirt would be my recomendation.

No matter what the boost is you need something to add more fuel,
at 6psi a FMU does the trick, as most often nothing needs to be done about timing, as the IAT rises and the ignition is backed off anyway,
after that a standalone is definitly the way do do it

Downing Atlanta is now using a boost sensitive fuel pressure regulator to go up to 7psi. No chip or injectors.
An increase in pressure and/or larger injectors could likely do the same thing.

yeah I think I am going to try just the 24# injectors before I put my FMU on. Hopefully I won't even need the FMU. We'll see ;)

when your off boost its going to be way to rich

Easily solved by never going off boost. :p

if you do it , do it right , 1 bar of pressure in an m42 engine with 8,5:1 , forged pistons and a parralel ecu , 4 extra injectors and you will playing with 300++ hp...and 32++ kg of torque...
isn't that nice.........................................

Okay, so I have a question along the lines of the OP, maybe we can get a list of parts that are needed for going turbo?
Turbo- GT28RS, etc.. What gives the best tuned powerband?
Megasquirt- What does this let me use for ECU or whatever, how high can I rev? I am running a DINAN ebay chip now.
(Will this let me not run an IC? How expensive is adding an IC? I think I would want one if going for lots of power?)
Walbro FP?
Injectors- Which are best? (what does 4 extra entail?)
Oil Cooler?
Some sort of intake- bored TB, even ITB?
Manifold- 666 or something, or custom if i can.
How much psi can I run? 1 bar would be nice!
ANy other info on things I will need? Oil temp/pres. and boost gauges..tial wastegate...

Like someone said, you'll be running rich if you go this route. A cost effective work around would be to use something like the Apex-I AFC to trim your fuel values for better off-boost response and idle.

well I sold the fmu and decided to just go ahead and run MS. I figured that it would just be better in the long run.

300hp with 15lbs of boost?

300hp with 15lbs of boost?
15 should be somewhere around 250ish and 20 should be just about 300 if my calcs are right...it kinda late

I believe your correct, but it also depends on cams headwork and other things done internally and components used to maximize efficiency of that boost. i bet you could do 300 with a lot of money into components and the actual engine/machine work intakes and the like.

it is all about mathematics people...
i know a few things about engines , but all the work is done by my friend ( chriss that is a mechanik )...
it is easy to calculate.. the 318is engine is 140 hp in atmosphere pressure , so if i put 1 bar extra pressure , theoreticly will go 140 + 140 = 280 , because it is 1 bar from the atmosphere and 1 bar from my buddy garrett... so if you play with the head , exhaust and pistons , rings , crank , ignition and other goodies in the engine , will go to 300+ , and then you can hunt down E36 M3 for fun...
i am going to this setup... ( we - me and my friend ) are going to start working the car with 0,5 bar , because the car has 170.000 km , to see how it goes with , and then , if everything ok , will go for 1 bar or 1,2 bar of pressure...
the setup is taking a long time , because we are fabricating all things by ourselfs , that is we are making all thing hapend without paying anybody to do it... my friend is working now for a month in the exhaust manifold ( it is taking time because he is calculating the angles and everything to have 100% efficiency ) , and i have just connected the smt7 , and waiting for him to finish the manifold to go on..( i need to know where exactly the turbo is going to be to fabricate the intercooler arms and the hood ) i have all parts needed , that is 440cc injectors to replace the stock , intecooler ( the setup will be v-mount , with a slight change in the hood ) , top mount garrett 28/60 turbo with internal wastegate , oil cooler , smt7 - boost controler ,gm map sensor 3 bar , smt7 ignition controler , smt7 injection controler , smt7 shift light ,generaly all the goodies that smt7 has. im i fogeting something ?
The car is going to be altered externaly to go along with the turbo setup , i have just finished the rear diffuser , i have done the front , and as i said i am waiting to get the hood done.
i am taking pictures as we go along , and will be posted when finished ...

assuming ambient temps and charge temps are the same twice as much air should give twice as much power,
I have seen that number go both ways, getting more then twice the stock at 1bar and getting less twice then stock at 1bar,
reason is mainly turbo and intercooler setup,
