Luckily I did this in a car I don't care much about. I was behind an ugly Chevy HHR exiting a parking lot. There was no traffic and the HHR started to move like she was exiting, so I carelessly started moving up and instead was looking to the left where the traffic would be. I hit the back of her car at, I don't know, 2 mph. She was pissed at first, but cooled off. I know it's my fault which sucks, because I'm usually pretty confident in my driving. Tell me this is something that can happen to anyone! I feel like an idiot.
Btw was driving a VW Golf. Damage isn't terrible but looks ugly. Mostly scraped and scuffed and my bumper has a small crack.

I can do you one better:
I did the same thing at a merge point in college getting onto a local highway. The lady in front started to go, and I started looking the down the road to merge, but she stopped suddenly. By the time I turned back it was too late. I skidded (no abs, in the rain) right into the back of her. I had at the time a lifted wrangler with big bumpers, and she a little CRV. I did almost nothing to my Jeep, but I blew her entire rear window out and destroyed the rear door. She was also angry, which I can't blame her...that was the last time I ever made that mistake.

Yeah, I'm really hoping I don't do that again, but it's easy to get comfortable. But it probably will help, at least for a while.

Don't worry about it. Happens to the best of us. My bimmer is still wearing a mark of my stupidity 2 years after the fact.
I slid into a co-worker's parked car. I was pulling back into my spot after lunch, turned the wheel, car turned a bit, and then it stopped turning. Pushed his car a good foot or so, and cracked a chunk off my front bumper cover. Luckily there was no damage to his MK 3 Jetta, and he wasn't mad.
It's hard to get over, but it always could've been worse!
