So a good friend who moved to SoCal a couple years ago was passing through town this past weekend. We went hiking, climbing and jumped in a river up in the Sunol Regional Wilderness (about 20 minutes North of San Jose off of 680, great place). After our day we decided...what better way to end the day than with some BBQ and beer. So, we purchased some Top Sirloins, a loaf of sourdough french bread, Maple Cured Bacon baked beans and 2 six packs of beer.
One was an old tried & true favorite...New Belgium's Fat Tire and their Sunshine wheat beer. I have to admit, I am impressed with the Sunshine. I know they have 7 different beers now, I suppose that I am just afraid that the others will not stack up to Fat Tire and sully my love for New Belgium Brewing Co..
At any rate, who else here has experienced these beers? Please tell me that they are all as good! And yes, I am drinking the leftovers right now.

Was mountain biking in Telluride and decided to ride and drink. Sounds dangerous but the buzz burns off quick at altitude. Anyway, there are so many micros and local brews that when I returned to FL it took me awhile to get back to the old brews.
I don't remember the names but can relate to the hops delight!

Lol. I have drank and ridden a bike back in college...around campus. I never tried it when I was actually mountain biking though. Once or twice I DID have a looong night and wake up still buzzed and go out for the ride...bushes make good puke-absorbers. I made sure to carry extra water for that lol.
Were you drinking while you were riding, or did you stop off somewhere? CamelBak + booze = well it works I guess.
What are your beers of choice, sir?

too-long story re: drinking and bikes:
My best friend from college was a high school exchange student in austria; lived out in the country with this family, the father of the family didn't really 'take' to my friend too much (sorta rude, not talkative, etc).
So one night, my friend gets invited to a classmate's birthday party; he borrows the fathers bicycle, goes to the party, and as any american high school student would do given the chance to drink a ton of good beer, gets totally wasted.
So my friend leaves the party around 2:00 am, drunker than all get out; winds up riding into a farmer's irrigation ditch (like, maybe 6 feet deep, 2 feet of water, full of cow shit). He *loses* the bike (it was never found)... crawls, stumbles back home, manages to find the house.
The father is waiting up for my friend... sees/smells him at the front door, and basically starts laughing his head off.
From that moment onward, they were practically inseparable and have stayed friends since (almost 20 years!)

Awesome Story Febi haha.
My current brew of choice is Paulaner Octoberfest. m42boy can attest to the smooth taste of this beer!
Wheat beer - I usually go with Paulaner Hefeweizen
Non wheat beer - Warsteiner
Preferred beverage - Guinness :D

^^lol nice story. I can ride fine on my MTB when I've been drinking everclear. I ride a lot though. I used to race for a big shop in gboro, free stuff from sposors rocks lol.
edit: Jagermeister and everclear are my norms. when I drink beer its Guinness, Keystone, or Corona.

Guinness for the win, definitely. I used to drink that almost exclusively last winter. I have since returned to my "1 new 6 pack per grocery store visit" rule, and it has been a veritable rollercoaster of tastes.
Nice story. And they say alcohol is prohibitive to bonding.....

I live in the same town as the New Belgium brewery, they have many great varieties. Try 1554 if you can find it.

My current preference, since it is nearly impossible to get non-pasteurized Erdinger in the US, is half Red Hook and half Black Hook, which makes a tasty Black and Tan.
I do like the Fat Tire ale, though.

Well I am sipping my last one right now. After that, there are 4 Fat Tires left in there with my name on them.

There is an amazing difference between good German beer and even the equivalent beer they sell in the states. For example, Erdinger export is not nearly as good as Erdinger in Germany.
Pasteurization kills the beer.
I did not know about the Hofbrau house in Vegas - now I will have to check it out next time I am in the area! That's my second favorite beer, right after Erdinger - Munchener Hofbrau House, but only served fresh... with a pretzel and wurst.
{sigh}
I miss Germany.

Haha, eeexcellent.
Intriguing about the beer being far better over there. I do not know if I have ever had non-pasteurized beer. I will look into this...

I am all for it. Lol, being that I like to spend waay too much time on things that are largely unimportant, I say we do it in a thread here in OT...make all the pics nice & uniform and have a description format & everything. We can start it here if you like, just toss some pics up & we can make them purdy later on.
