No no no this has nothing to do with girls/relationships. Maybe if this was Bimmerforums OT....

So I ended up having a co-worker interested in the basketweave center caps...a co-worker just by coincidence through Craigslist. We met around lunch time so I could get my cash for them.

I keep telling myself I am not going to do anything more with the car, not for a while at least. It runs nice, rides nice, looks nice. If it ain't broke don't fix it, right?

Soooo...he has the cash, and he also has an extra MTECH I steering wheel he brought along. So, naturally I take the wheel even though it means I must rip out all the Airbag stuff. I would not just pull the wheel...I am not a half-asser. I had/have my concerns about safety upon removal of the airbag, but removing it might actually be a better idea for me. I am 6'1", so I would smack right into it. I also sit VERY close to the wheel...which could lead to bad bad burns. Losing it might not be a bad idea afterall.

So yeah, I am hopeless. While I CAN say no to deals, this one was just something I could not pass up. I love the styling of the MTECH I wheel anyway. Who else here is the type to say "No no I am done, nothing more to do..." and hop on something out of the blue? I think I am just afraid of commitment! I cannot leave the car alone!!! A tinkerer at heart....

...we are pathetic! I should be stocking up on canned goods and water, but I am putting another coat of wax on the 18.

What does the wheel look like? I have a "new" sport wheel and plan on converting. Any thoughts you hopeless individual?

What does yours look like?

And yeah I should stockpile food & water. CA is waaaaaaaay overdue for a major earthquake. Need guns, too.....it'll be Mad Max status lol!

So where is all that tropical paradise stuff we are supposed to be living in?

My wheel is the same. The airbag can bravo mike. Did you get the column adapter thing?

I would have gotten an M tech 2 wheel or something but i heard they are too close to the stalks. Im using a Momo competition wheel (very thick which is what i wanted) I love it even though I cant really see 40-100. Im going to use a spacer to have it farther away from the stalks and closer to me

Be interested on the fit. I have heard some OEM wheels will not fit w/o spacers.

So...does the MTECH I wheel need a spacer? Bah!

it needs a small spacer (difference between the airbag and non airbag wheels) not a big deal...

I will let you know on my conversion.

oh yeah that too. I was talking about a differnt spacer for my momo but you need a spacer to go in between the hub after you put the wheels on and the nut.

Yeah I saw that metal ring in there when I swapped it earlier. I left it in as I was afraid that without it the turn signal release pin might get jammed too far in. So, I just put the washer & nut on, and it moves around a little for the moment. Since I have a lathe I COULD make a new spacer...but I think I will just get a bunch of washers & stack them so the nut is not bottoming out against the splined portion. I did not like the feel with the spacer out anyway...the stalkks were too close to the wheel and my knuckles would hit them. With the original space, there is enough room for my hands. I would not want any bigger of a spacer in there though. It would look crappy if the gap between the wheel & column were any bigger (currently 4-5mm).

yeah my hands tap the stalks with my momo. Im going to be spacing it out at least one inch probably 1.59 (4cm). the spacers go between the momo hub and wheel

Yeah that is prolly a good idea. It would probably be annoying as hell hitting the stalks. The wheel feels sooooo far away compared to the airbag one...1.25 inches makes a big difference.

I pulled the SRS control module while I was at it. I think I will yank the harnesses & impact sensors, too.....when I have time to do a good job. There is TOTALLY room for a megasquirt up in there now, and with the wiring gone there are ports in the firewall for everything! Wheee........once again, HOPELESS!
