I have (around*) a 282 intake, 272 exhaust, with a ton of overlap (don't quote me on this)...

i have yet to dyno the car, but really, butt-dyno wise... the cams shift the power more than increase it (net-net).

the real deal is to combine the camming with a raised rev limit to squeeze more power out of each gear change ...for our 4-cyl cars, that's kind of the trick.

ok, that i follow, more power but at higher RPM, so that leads me to ask what is the safe RPM limit on a stock M42 bottom end, mines currently set at 6950 rpm

The MarkD chip gives you a 7200 rpm limit with stock interns. I wouldn't rev higher than that with a stock engine

Actually it is 7100RPM

The bottom end is not the weak link in the M42. At higher Rpm's you could experience valve float which could mean valve/piston contact.

I have Reground cams from Delta Camshaft of Tacoma WA. I lost the spec sheet, but I like them. Power from 4000-7100 is nice.

I was thinking about the same thing this fall when I get my school money.. I would like to build a head for my car, and make it so I can bolt on a turbo in the near future.. Any suggestions?

called Delta today. They had no idea what I was talking about with the M42. "One step higher than stock" was all they could tell me. No numbers.
