Perfusive Leaking
« on: July 11, 2009, 12:39:45 PM »
So I have a problem with coolant leaking from my car. Whenever I turn it off it drains the whole (or almost whole) system on the driveway! I've changed the radiator and also replaced the gasket to the connection flange. Where could this leak be coming from! I need to get this fixed fast so any help would be great. Thanks

P.S. please dont tell me its the profile gasket. :(

You didn't say what year you have, but your sig implies an E30. On my 91 318i, the head gasket at the front sprung a leak (out-of-warranty) at 50,000 miles. A few years later, my water pump broke, and besides that I had them change the front seal, so I suspect the profile gasket was changed as part of that process. Under the intake manifold is a plastic pipe with coolant hose and engine block connections. That's your next possibility and that's the least painful from a money point of view. The coolant should leave some telltale trail when it's dried or drying up (splashguard had the evidence my radiator was finally losing it -- that I replaced myself).

Good luck tracking it down and getting it repaired.

Ok I may have to check that out. I know there's a write up on how to get rid of everything under there. Would that leak without the engine being turned over? I mean I fill it up and it'll just leak out without even running the car. Thanks for the help though. Oh and it's a 91 318is.

Considering its leaking w/o running you may want to try using a cooling system pressure tester.

I think I found where the problem is. It looks like the seal to the water pump was shot. Now time to do work. Thanks for the suggestions though guys.
