here is a funny one. power locks?
« on: April 18, 2009, 04:58:23 PM »
ok,  this is new to me and i have not pulled hte rear door panels to see if anything is not hooked up but..... let me tell you the story.

my 318 is the total base model.  no cruise control,  6 button obc,  flat bottom seats,  crank sunroof,  you get the idea.  anyways,  i lock the doors and the rear doors don't do anything.  have you guys (and girls, if any)  ever heard of the back doors having manual locks while the fronts are power

Some thoughts

I have a 318i, built 01/91, with the LSD as the only upgrade item (:)oh wait, there was the manual sunroof).  I have power locks at all four doors and the trunk. My right rear lock is a bit temperamental so I get B318M42W's point. :) A while back I replaced my two rear door harnesses with salvage yard pulls, but that was more to repair breaks and shorts in the power window wires. The door actuator is in the rear of the door and has black, white, and blue wires going into it -- just follow the wires/connector held in by the rearmost wire tie.

Adios for now.

It sounds to me that you need to replace the lock actuators themselves.  I have a car that the rear drivers door lock works intermittently, while all the others function fine.  You either have a short or the actuator is bad.  Test wires before buying new actuator.

you had the option of having power locks removed way back in 91, but base models did come with central locking. just like all the cars came with a sun-roof, but you could have one with out.

+1 on testing wires. When I pull a simple wiring harness from the salvage yard, I make a point of doing continuity tests. My latest harness had a clean break on one of the window wires, and the black wire for the door lock was frayed (repaired both). Blown fuses often indicate wiring shorts.

ok,  jsut asking.  i have had other e30s with locking issues but never on both doors.  i just hadn't been into the car yet so i thought i would ask about it.  no blown fuses or anything like that.

i have to break into the electrical here soon becausei  have to put in my euro cluster and get a non obc hvac panel from ebay.eu or something.  i had one in my 89 325i and loved it and am going to make the swap on this car also

My car actually does not have central locking/power locks FYI. There are a few cars in America that are that way, but it's pretty rare.

No central locking on mine either.

I had someone on bf.c research the build from my vin and it wasn't a selected option.

LSD was though
