I only know of one diffence between the heads being the valve stem diametres. 7mm on e30 and 6mm on e36. Does anyone know any other differences?

I know E30 use dual valve springs,E36 use singles. This subject interest me cause I'm interest in using E36 valves/guides with E30 springs and retard cam.

Both heads are identical on the outside, so both accept the same timing covers, chain guides, cam sprockets etc etc. But internally they are completely different. The M44 head (late e36 318is) is much, much better.

Would a M44 head would fit onto a M42(E30).I dont love M42 hydro lifters.

M44 has hydraulic lifters too, just a different design.

the directions that came with my dbilas setup required it to be modified slightly if bolted to an e36 head, so there are some external differences as well.

Maybe that has something to do with how the engine is further back in the engine bay on an E36 chassis?
