moronic sparks should be ok, not sure how it would run with no TPS, but I've run it with TPS signal off my ITBs (very different to standard throttle), no AFM etc and it still had decent sparks. Converting to MS sparks isn't that difficult either (esp if you go EDIS), or you could use an SMT6 and a MAP sensor to control the sparks - this works perfectly.
I think this is a great idea - cheap, cheerful and a whole lot of fun. Obviously no good on a daily, but good fun for a toy.

im willing to go down to about 20/23 mpg but my only set back will bethe tunning for the sparks

also where can i get my hands into one of thos manifolds (DCOE)

every now and then I'll see one on ebay that is a modified lower manifold, but go to that gt technic site and they have it. or you could do what the guies on ebay were doing and modify/weld dcoe flanges on to it. Also what size carb do you think you would want to run? 40? 45? they would probably be all you would need especially sense you plan on running a dual setup.

Found this on Bimmer Forums, looks like a pretty crazy setup and I think they are running GM coils, an Aeromotive FPR ,and a dry sump setup, I'm surprised with this crazy of a setup that they didn't spend the extra money to the MSD coils

Dang! If you could get ahold of one, it would be much cheaper to do this to a euro 316. Granted, that isn't an M42, (M10) but they can put out about 130 hp stock except for some better motorbike carbs. Doubt that it is practical for you to get a euro car to do this, though

I have heard that ITBs on this car don't do much unless you have a heavily modded motor. The stock TB can flow enough air for about 180 hp. Granted, it isn't near as sexy as ITBs
