Sunroof Experts Needed

Hey i just got my 91 m4s e30 318is and i'm having a sunroof issue. It came with a manual crank sunroof but its rusted and its stuck cracked open. I live in canada and winter is around the bend.

Now the seller gave me an extra sunroof but its power and its silver to match the hood. I have a few ideas for it but i need some opinions.

First things first i need it out. I have the tools but I'm not sure if its a good idea for me to do it myself. The question is can i bolt it up to the manual crank? Which one is better crank or power? Or should i just body fill it and forget about it?

Sunroof is tuff stuff...

I prefer crank one, because You can always close it...

But to change rusted one will be really challenging.

If it's opened You will need to derust it first, because it is possible to replace it part by part and few screws needs to be achieved in opened or closed position...

well the extra sunroof i have is a full power one ... can i take off the motor and connect it to the crank somehow?

yes, you can,
it fits just the place of the crank...

but if the sunroof springs /the elements that pull the sunroof/ is rusty you will surely burn the engine...

I would strongly recomment derusting all elements before putting there power ;)

Nice idea jpod! My friends use to weld the sunroof with a piece of iron ;) But it steals You the possibility to throw tomatos through the roof ;-)

i was actually doing that to my project car i have.  it actually ill turn out pretty nice
