M42 318 Turbo MAP conversion
« on: November 04, 2007, 07:45:48 AM »
Hi All,

Been reading through here for a while and got a question on a MAP conversion.
I am currently running a MAF system on my turbo, recently had some problems with blowing off the silicon connector hoses (bit of age and alignment issues) after the hoses blow the whole system runs very rich, barely drivable, I know that a MAP conversion should fix this.

so just wondering.
Q.) Has anyone done a MAP conversion with a unichip piggy back and have some details.
I have heard of it being done, but never found any details on how to do it, and what is needed.

Responses greatly appreciated...:D

How would MAP fix that? I have run years MAP converted Porsche 944 Turbo with AFM Link piggy pack box. MAP just measures intake absolute pressure. If you blow hoses MAP would not solve any possible rich A/F situations. It's just malfunction, and there is not such a intelligence in Motronic or any piggy pack box to cure it. Just secure your hoses and tune up properly your current system.

I'll convert my M44 from MAF to MAP, but not very soon... I'm waiting the turbo manifold and until there I don't want to mess with car ecu;)

I'll use Power Commander 3, wich is a piggyback used on motorcycles, and without big efforts will work in my engine, already tested by others, but nobody use it with a MAP.

Now I think that a Megasquirt2 will solve this greatly... I'll try with power commander, otherwise I'll sell it, as it so requested from bikers and use megasquirt...:)

but first I should wait that my Neukin manifold is here...
please post more info and pics about your setup (boost, turbo model, fueling...), so we can try to help you more:rolleyes:

Quite easily...
if you loose air pressure at the manifold, you can change fuel map to match...
MAP can tell if you have lost your boost pressure at certain rpm where it should be and adjust accordingly... MAF cannot..
