I replaced my old coils with the bav auto ones... they work fine, and they are a little cheaper than the stock ones... new coils = good upgrade

I used another brand I purchased before undergoing the BMW religious conversion. My car would sputter under heavy load at low RPM. I noticed a huge difference because afterwards the car worked like it should. Mine old ones were original because I had to flip the plugs on the wiring harness upside down for the new ones. They used to be M42 specific but along the way BMW apparently figured out they could use one design and sell one part for a lot of cars. Take the extension off, rotate the wiring harness, and plug them in. Some folks are going to the trouble to use them as coil packs with the extensions on them and the whole thing on top of the plug - like other motors. This eliminates the need for spark plug wires but requires extending the wiring harness from the original location on the fender apron to each coil pack. I might do that when I have nothing better to do.

Did you install the magnecor wires before or after the ignition coils? What did you think of the wires?

Hey guys, I just bought the BAS coils and Megnacor wires too. When they arrive I'll post my impressions and take some pics.

After driving the car for a few days, the car does run/feel better.

Coils arrived yesterday, and I installed them today. Installation was a snap took approx 10 minutes. I can't say there was a much of an improvement, but the car ran perfect before this mod. The car does seem to idle maybe 1 to 5% better, and any hesitation the car may have had before is gone, throttle response was improved somewhat. I think it pulls about the same maybe a little harder but that is most likely a placebo. My original coils had 100k miles on them so it seems they are still in excellent shape. (I wonder if I can sell those) I also ordered the Magnacor 8.5mm wires, maybe those combined with the coils will add some performance. (but I'm not holding my breath). The only other mods the motor has is a JC chip and K&N panel filter.
Maintenance on this car is perfect and up to date.

update

I installed the magnacor 8.5mm wires, drove with them for over a week, noticed nothing. All in all if your car is well cared for and has low miles don't waste your money on either the coils or the wires.
