Does anyone know if this Schrick s52 intake manifold would fit the m42 head if you cut two of the runners off and some of the plenum?

Dino tried it with a M50 manifold and could not get it to work. I'll let him share the details if he wants.

You'd have to cut the first or last 2 runners off and then change the location of the TB. I've thought about it and would install the TB at about a 60 dgree angle going into the manifold.

I've also looked at installing the M42 lower manifolds on M50's and getting the S54 intake manifold to fit on the M50 that way...

the port shapes and different and mounting studs are spaced differently also. I dont think there is much to gain by doing this since the stock manifold has been proven to support 200hp of air flow. If you are looking for gains ITB's and stand alone is the way to go.

I played with spare M42 last night and tried both an S52 and S50 manifold and neither would ever work without major modifications. The ports are close, but the M42 has the injector notches. A simple sandwich plate would fix that though. The mounting studs are off, but again could be fixed with the plate. The biggest problem and the reason it wouldn't work is that the manifold is so long that the TB opening would be pointed straight down and likely hit the subframe. Although a CAI would be really easy from under the car lol.

I played again with it last night. The port spacing is correct and the bottom studs mount up perfectly. A simple machined spacer would work great. However, you'd just have to shorten the manifold runners because they're too long and the plenum part almost touches the motor mount arm.

something i thought of is to take the lower manifold, and make and airbox that attaches to it, then use the m42 or other throttle body on the airbox

Isn't it better to recalculate the intake lenghts and just make custom intake manifold especially designed for Your setup?

Why would S52 cut&welded manifold be better than the stock one? Personally I think that it is rather not going to work better than stock...

Nothing personal, but I don't feel that You know what You are doing really... They are surely NOT too long for the S52 engine!!!

Heh, If You will cut it to have 4 runners and than shorten them, just to fit there with no respect to the Schrick calculated lenghts /they are calculated for the specific RPM's of the S50/S52/ and volume of the plenum /as it is not calculated for the M42/, this would be a real lottery ;-)

Thanks for the input, but you really should read what I wrote then comment on my competency. Nothing personal though.

They are too long because it (the manifold) almost hits the motor mount arms. The TB would be pointed straight at the ground.

Longer runners would be nice for the M42 to make low end power, but in reality a 1.8-2.0L is not going to make much power down low. So nice short runner could make more power up top when it�s easier to make. It�s all a tradeoff�

Since both plenum ends would be chopped open, why not seal one, seal the original TB opening and put the TB in the front opening you make in the plenum? I realize a tapered plenum is more ideal for a side-TB entrance, but I bet cutting the runners would do more harm than sticking the TB elsewhere. Catch my drift?

I'm really sorry about that - I had a bad day...

I feel that there is a lot of work to do. Far too much for me related to the effect.

I would rather spend a few hours more and fabricate my own custom made intake manifold calculated all the way just to match my criteria. It would be similar to this one:

Here is the other designed for 6cyl head but the idea used is just as simple as possible:
