My thermometer read 192 in the reservoir tank, but shows 7/8 to red on the temp guage. What is the right temp to expect coolant to be at for correct system function?

Stock thermostat is 190 F or thereabouts; I would try flushing yer system a few times!

Thanks. I've flushed it (last weekend) plus all the usual stuff (t-stat, air bleed, fan clutch, and elec fan). I'm thinking its the guage again, but so far, everything has been NOT IT, so....

Doesn't sound like you have an actual problem, other than your temp gauge being wrong. Stock tstat is 88C, or 190F.

I looked on Pelican Parts and saw one 88 and one for 90 and i was thinkin F

Guess that is good, but I'll have to drop the cluster. I can't look at a temp in the red and not freak.

Might be the temp sensor? It's the brownish yellow one that sends the signal to the temp gauge.

OK.
new t-stat $40
new fan clutch $60
new coolant $30
labor 3 hours (my time only has value to me, so $0.00)
candy thermometer $10

First $130 and 2 hours = 3/4 to 7/8 into red on temp gauge

Second $10 and 1 hour = unwavering midpoint reading on temp guage.

Lesson: cluster failure more likely than cooling failure. I've done this twice in a year and don't think there was a real problem either time.

If you are seeing high temp readings, first check the coolant temp!

The little brass nut on the back of the cluster are the ground nuts correct?

Double nut them if there is enough to thread a second nut on there. Mine backed off after a year for the second time.
