About the block drain... the bentley recommends you replace the washer.  Is there universal consensus on this?  Not that I cannot afford the 2 dollars, I just want to know if it's a must.  Thanks in advance.

PS:  Love this thread cuz I intend to rework nearly the entire cooling system (for good measure).

I didn't replace the washer and mine didn't leak .

I had the same thought...I'm going to make a full flush also. Bought BMW OEM antifreeze 1.5l for 8$. Took 4.5l, just in case. :D
