Oil Filter Plate Conversion for Oil Cooler - Prototype ONLY

After reading up on the problem with heat after tracking and there being no REAL method for adapting an oil cooler I came up with this.  This is what the final version will look like.

I have no idea about cost yet, but I can't imagine it'd be too much for a cast or milled version.

What do you think? Constructive critisim aiding to a better product welcome.

I do not work for any automotive place. I am just an enthuist like most of you who plans to race my 318 in Spec E30.

if you find a way , and you know where the oil goes and where it ends , and this thing works , it will be great....very good , i have not thought about that....i just fabricated an oil filter cap with oil cooler output , but this will be a million times better if it works... please let me know when you make it , if it will work , and send more pics when finished...

This replaces the oil filter housing (image).



The out line is one the bottom and is directly feed from the oil pump. It then travels through a remote mount oil filter, though I will be using a cartridge filter type as they have no pressure bypass, then through the oil cooler then back into the engine through the top hole.

There is a lot of empty space in the OE oil filter housing and I decided not to program it in. However I will be adding it back in to reduce overall weight.

Also the OE oil pressure sensor will have to be relocated to a block near the oil filter.

so your saying the stock filter assemplby will not be used? there will need to be a completly new filter? why would this be better than vatos' setup becuase his seems simpler.

it is for a race car.  he wants a remote filter and an oil-cooler.  Seems like a good solution for his application if you ask me.

The problem with the top mount filter housing oil cooler adapter is only a fraction of the oil is pumped to the oil cooler, also it will either lower oil pressure or cause more stress on the oil pump.

My solution is for a race car or a heavily tracked\auto-cross as it forces all the oil to go through the remote oil filter cartridge and then the oil cooler which will lower the temp of the oil and of course the engine.

What will you be using as filter housing? A modified version of the OE one? Where do you plan on putting the remote filter? This is a neat idea.

I will be using a cartridge filter that will be mounted in the lower right hand side of the engine bay near the A/C compressor. However I would think that most would use a circular type oil filter (PH8) and remote filter mount.

why not use a M20x1.5 factory original Honda filter used on the high reving Honda S2000 it has the Anti Drain Back Valve and this filter is up to the task .
