Open the club for E36 owners!
« on: January 03, 2007, 03:43:01 PM »
Hello, well since this is the M42 club i was happy cause it was exactly the kind of forum i seeked for my E36 318is... But the problem with the page is that it seems to be very biased towards E30, or almost entierly :P

So could you guys maybe flick in a E36 image and scare less E36 owners away.. I think this would be a terrific place where E30/E36 owners meet and share there engine-knowledge ... crossing the barrier of models...

Hehe got a bit poetic, but you get the point!

I vote yes but it seems to me that there are alot of electronic differences (engine management )between an E30 and an E36 not to mention the differences in body .
Am I right ??? If I am then it might get confusing when we're trying to diagnose engine malfunctions. The E30 M42 is an  exclusive club(a rare breed) .
Hmmmmm  ----  Can I change my Vote Now to NO !!!
Hell ,I wouldn't mind having a 318I E36 .
Good thing I'm not in charge

I also voted no, we are a buncha stoubron ole' krauts here.  this is a "cult" and you have to own a e30 m42 to be part of it. the feeling of warmness and understanding that we all own the same car is special to us (speaking for group as a whole.)  There is pleanty of good support out there for the e36's like on BF.

Thats just my opinion, lets hear what the rest have to say.
Ohh yea nothing against e36's if the right deal came around I'de still get one, but still would love my e30 100x more :)
... no more m42

We're already here!  We have too much in common to be haggling over body styles.  Plus the M42 is possibly even more rare in an E36 chassis than in an E30 - there's not much other help out there for us.

Well, there are a few E36 guys in here already.  We are not going out of our way to prevent E36 people...yet.  If it becomes a copy of BFc (at times) with teenage nonsense or behavior similar to the infamous Jordan, then measures will be taken.

A big E36 M42 club was actually started just before the E30 one.  I got the idea from them doing it actually, and some good folks here got us our own site and whatnot.  The E36 M42 does have numerous differences, but knowledge is always welcome.  If you cannot find what you need in the E36 club, you can always look here.  We just do not want this turning into an E36 club since there were countless more E36's with M42's.  This club was sorta intentionally set up to provide a community for the rarest non-M E30 ever produced (excluding crazy Alpina build & whatnot).

So, in brief:
...no.  We will see how things go as time passes, maybe an E36 sister-site could get worked out someday.

I have 3 BMWs and one part time job.  When I need info or help I seek out those sites specific to make and model.  Seems that these various clubs by default garner a larger knowledge base.

As far as forum "teenage nonsense or behavior,"  been there done that.  I had a site once and shut it down completely because it became a baby sitting nightmare.  And get this, it wasn't the "teenagers."

In short, I like the E30 aspect and the car oriented mentality here.  Without a doubt, this is the best site you could ever find.  I support a separate sister E36 site and keep this one for E30s.  That being said I would welcome any BMW owner that needs help or want to contribute to do so here.  I am by no means suggesting a boycott of E36 owners.  I have one.

i voted yes. same or similar engine; this is m42 club, not e30 m42 club after all. I think it would not do any harm to see some talk of the later engines, as they have some interesting changes etc, and ultimately, why the hell not? and come on, the e30 isn't that special guys!

This is a problem? Hopefully, they are storming the barricades trying to get in.

Not a problem at all so far.  E36 folks are free to join and share in the knowledge.  For now though no separate E36 section is needed, if anyone was asking for that.  By all means, contribute.  I am not sure what happened to the E36 club anyway lol.

I voted yes.
Maybe there could be shared engine/driveline section, and seperate everything-else sections, to prevent confusion or an overwhelming number of e36 posts?

I voted yes, again M42 club not e36 or e30. personaly i like the e30 body much more, but an m42 is an m42, the newer ones are just a little more advanced. Plus there is already e36 dudes around here, no need to specifically orientate the site towards them as stated before, sites like bimmerforums exists, while there is nothing for the e30 m42 except this site.

We have never done anything to discourage it, and I think it would be in bad taste to not allow them.  We  only  specialize in  teh  e30, nothing  saying  no one else can join.

Keeping people out only leads to an elitist attitude on a site.

By the way, we have at least two e36 members (three I think) and two 325 members as  well. We have good information beneficial to both groups and they have info  for us. Remember your car is a sort of cross between the two.
